What do you guys think about putting the scent on your lures, I'm talking about the ones that come in bottles that all have different smells. Just curious if you think they are worth the time spent putting them on your lures, or if they are just another piece of clutter in the tacklebox.

Add them, I know for sure they don't hurt.

I feel like I'm fishing naked if I don't have some Smelly Jelly or Lunker Sauce on my jigs.

I definitely reccomend some scent.

I don't use scent at all. Although it may help, I just can't handle another spill or leak in the tackle bag, car, or boat.

I really like lunker sauce and smelly jelly. Those would be my fav's. I have used many others, but the jells or sauce is cleaner and I belive more effective.

WIU i would say my favorite scents are smelly jelly, crawfish, bass feast, and the threadfin shad lunker sauce.....lunker sauce makes another one that i use ONLY when i have to and that's a crawfish scent...it looks like snot when it comes out of the tube and you have to put it on the lure.....i hate to use that one....but i am not beyond it if i have to......

Kick-n-bass is my main scent, along with Yum and Carolina Lunker sauce. A soft plastic or jig doesn't get thrown without a scent. Does it work? I have more confidence when I use one, and confidence is the name of the game.

I bought some of the Hawg Sauce and it sure smells like garlic. Haven't had a chance to try it yet but am looking forward to it. I am mainly interested in soft plastics because on a crank they either eat it or they don't.

WD-40. Used it once, and it was the best I've used.

And I asked a DNR about it as well if it would harm the water, and they said it shouldn't be an issue. That and I believe Renegade worms a few years back were sprayed with a "fregrance" that was nothing more than WD-40.

Here is the MSDS sheet on it. http://www.wd40.com/Brands/pdfs/msds...aerosol.us.pdf

It is petroleum-based so it should not really be used in the water. I know of people that use it and it does seem to work to remove scents from the bait but doesn't seem worth it with so many other safe products out there.

Another quote I found online as well:

Attract fish. When sprayed on fishing bait, WD-40 covers up the scent of human hands on the bait to better lure fish, according to USA Today. The WD-40 Company receives hundreds of letters from consumers confirming this use, but prefers not to promote WD-40 as a fishing lure since the petroleum-based product could potentially pollute rivers and streams, damaging the ecosystem.

Yep. Ask Bassintom.

I once watched a guy spray live minnows with WD-40 and proceed to catch crappie after crappie after crappie. Apparently it really does work.
