Default Trailer wiring question

Decided to make the jump to total LED trailer lighting. Need some advice conserning wiring up the clearance lights. The old ones have 2 wires, but the new LEDs only have one. I used a double end connector-plug one wire in each end and crimp it down-on the power wire and filled each end with silicone. My problem is the ground wire. This light gets just below the surface when launching/loading. I put an eye connection on the end of the ground, filled each end with silicone, and put it on the stud that bolts the light to the trailer. Since this light gets submerged, is there anything else I need to do? My fear is that having the eye connection exposed to the water it will short out. Should I cover the whole thing with silicone, or will it be OK the way it is?

reb,i really wouldn't worry about the ground wire.as long as the connection is tight you should be good for years..it's the power wire connections you need to seal up good.

U got it Tom. Remeber to make sure you have the ground wire hooked up through your plug as well on the truck end as well. Todays lighting is a tad more sensitive to voltage variations and the added protection of the truck and trailer ground being a complete system will be relatively trouble free and LOOKS GREAT!!

you anijoking about touchy wiring the newer fords have a complete system set up. kind like the gm set up from the 90's. blow one fuse and your entire vechile goes to sh!t. with the fords it reads like the speed senors is bad. VERY diffacult to drive. the tranny starts missing 3rd gear and will slam very hard into 2. oh yeah a lil bity plastic part the size 2 golf balls that bolts in your truck has 2 wires and a vacum hose hook up to it is $400. i took it to the dealer first time under warranty. the second time i knew what to do stop by the parts place buy a $1 fuse.

i use the shrink tubing over connections after i use the shrink butt connectors.never use the clip on connectors.they'll work for a while until a cop is behind you.then they give out.

I just don't want to blow a fuse when the light gets wet. Then again, the light bar in the center of the trailer below the tail lights uses the trailer frame as the ground, and it sure gets wet. Hopefully I'm good to go. Find out this weekend

reb...i have done led on hundreds of trailers. the ground is fine the way you have it as long as the hot wire connection is waterproof.
