Backstabber Crankbaits - Thoughts Please

Crankbaits have been a hot topic on here lately. I ran across this and wanted to see what everybody's thoughts were on it.

They are called Backstabbers. They feature a "unique design with a hook extending from the back of the bait as opposed to the belly, the Backstabber Square-Bill Crankbait repels snags better than conventional lures. Specially tuned and weighted to accommodate the top hook and swim true, this hook configuration also hooks fish in the top lip - greatly increasing your odds of landing those larger fish......."

I think I like them because if you aren't bumping cover you aren't fishing crankbaits right. Every cast I cringe at the thought of losing a $15 LC RC, but I think this has some merit.

I think this would be great when fishing the bottom. When bumping structire with the bill and stuff. Would not be as good for suspended fish that tend to attack from teh bottom. I do lik ethe swiveling hooks to prevent fish leveraging off teh bait. Would just like to see how they are manufactured to determine their durability.

If they swim right, i would give em a shot...

if your fishing zero laydowns and just wackin bottom fine. i fish to much junk to have the bait run with a hook stickin up..

I don't know if I have ever had that much trouble with a regular set of bottom hooks. Sure, I've got hung a time or two, but honestly I think I've only had to use my lure retriever a handfull of times.

I actually think I'd have more trouble with a top hook.

Saw the special on Vs with them. They were a neat concept and yes, all the fish were hooked in the top jaw. Forget which show it was. Basically a big infomercial on the backstabber. Never heard anymore about them until I saw this post.

Looks like a sweet crankbait!! Prolly gonna be good or in the spring when the grass and lilly pads are just starting to come back - burn that puppy over top of it, and I'm sure you'll get bit! 'cause the hook is on the back, you won't get tangled up in the weeds a much either!

im thinkin if the bait can make it through the mess, the hook on top aint gonna hurt anything more than on thebottom

Saw em using the Lipless one on Fishing University today... they swim nice in the water, and as advertised they were hooking everything in teh top lip...

I saw that today too. Looked pretty good. I have not seen any in the local stores here, not really something I wanna buy online.

I believe they were using the lipless in Red Sexy Stabber.
