Fishin' Frogs

I bought some of those fancy Dean Rojas Bronzeeye frogs.
These suckers cost eight bucks a piece. I haven't had one
worthwhile strike on these things. I admit I can be impatient.
I think my presentation is the problem. Please help!

Are you finding a mat of vegetation to run it over? look for holes in the vegetation. If you running it in open water, I'd parallel to the bank, or try a stop and go method

I have been using them in areas where a crank would get hung up and also parallel to the banks, trying to think like a frog...but I don't know how fast they swim or how far a frog would swim in any given amount of time.

i use two methods , one is stop and go, kinda like a frog does, swims from you area, then stops on the next item they can rest on.
The other method is to look for spots that the bass could ambush by, and run the frog by it, in other words looks for shady areas the bass could be hiding in, run your frog right next to it, thats the method i use the most

stop and go retrive short stroke it frog style. frogs do NOT swim for long periods of time before they stop and drift down. a long continuse retrive may spook the bass. most bass follow it a good ways before nailing it..
i totally dislike that style of frog i like the horny toad..

NOW you talkin bout one of MY favorite baits to fish and one HELLUVA good fish producer. A couple of tricks to use. First off DONT move that frog when it first hits. Give the fish a bit of time to locate it. Then short hops kinda slow at first and speed it up then stop it. Mix it up. Sometimes they like faster hops and sometimes slower. Keep thinking like a frog. Throw it where you have the thickest cover available. When he does strike dont shotgun the fish. I tell folks give a fast count of three before setting the hook. I dont like the frog in water that hasnt any cover. I use them where it would take a weedwacker to get in there.

Since bass are creatures of habit, meaning they sustain their lives predicated on ambush tactics, don't be afraid to cast parallel to the tullies. I've had some vicious strikes using the frog that way.

the frogs you have bought really produce good fish, if you fish them in heavily matted vegitation. For areas that may not be as thick I would suggest the Horny Toad, or my favorite is the RIBBIT.

When fishin a frog I just look for mats of thick vegetation of some sort and just pull it right across the top in a stop and go method. Sometimes, I can't keep the bass off of the frogs, they'll hit it so much.

yeah buddy don't give up on the bronze eye frog! this bait has really impressed me and i know it will you also if you give it a fair chance. i like using it the same ways the other guys explained but i also us it where i can find submerged willow trees and skip it as far back under them as you can. i will stop and go until i get away from the cover and then i will work it fast back to the boat. i know somebody on here said to stop often but i have caught several bass when working it fast. also if you hold your rod tip low and bounce your rod tip lightly while reeling it will kinda walk the dog and it will do a lot of moving and not cover much water. this is real handy when it is sitting in a opening in the grass or brush. one more tip is use at least a medium heavy rod because you will need the backbone to get a good hookset if the fish is in grass. braided line will also help with this but it also takes some off of my casting distance so i stay with mono.
