Default Pre and Post spawning questions

I made it down to the pond yesterday and noticed a few have made it to the beds. Males guarding with the females just off the beds. I know that these are my early spawning ones and would rather not bed fish them. (Very small pond, so I don't like to mess with them on the beds)
What do you all prefer for the pre-spawn fish. I tossed flukes with limited success.
And then the follow on, what is the preferred bait for post-spawn fishing.
In past years, the fluke has been my go to, but want to consider other options.

Thanks

well i would think that a crawdad or maybe a bluegill bait would work. my reason is that these are enemies of the bass no matter if they are on bed or about to bed or post spawn. get these near a bass and maybe you'll get lucky. oh and don't forget the lizard.

For pre and post spawn fish I have done well with a spinnerbait, jig, and shallow crankbaits.

Love my jigs this time of the year. I've found out this year that a suspending crankbait (not jerkbait) like the Norman suspending crankbaits, in a realistic craw or bluegill pattern drives the bass nuts. I just bounce along the bottom till I get to a bed, and pause right above the bed. They hate it! A quick little pop (not enough to move the bait far) and you will see the bass go nuts.

i also like the idea of a spinnerbait or crawdad this time of year(pre spawn here in alabama), and in my opinion you can never go wrong with a jig. but bama good point with the lizards too, from my understanding, lizards will eat the bass eggs, correct me if im wrong. but sometimes a lizard is too much bait, not enough hook and they normally for me try to pick the tail of it up and move it. the best thing for me when that happens is use a mini 4'' lizard with a large hook or go to a tube. just my $.02

Pre spawn/post spawn to me equals noise, pre spawn I love a rattle trap, then post spawn I love a rattle trap. Or in fact any other anouying lure, in fact they seem to hate any lure like that more this time of year. Spawn puts them in a hormonal mood and fishing that mood increases catches.

Great tip! Don't let the pros get ahold of that, or everybody will be doing!

yeah with little ponds like what you are talkin about flukes and spinnerbaits can be great..... if most are still prespawn throw a wacky worm (best pond lure ever).... in between 4 of us we have caught 80 fish the last 3 days on it.... prespawn.... some males (2) were guarding but no females.... they werent locked down either.....

i know SC is gettin a cold front today so you might be getttin one two.... not sure how big it is but im pretty sure its the same one amistad got hit by
