Default Fishing Joe wheeler lake this coming week

We are taking a trip to Joe wheeler lake in AL. this weekend. Going to fish with my good friend Rich that lives right on the lake. he said they are catching nice smallie on cranks. I will try to post some pictures after I get back. if anyone is interested. I like to try are new baits out but i do think think the floating craws will work this time of year. When smallie are eating shads its hard to catch them on jigs.

Yea post pics. Cranks sound like a good idea on the lower lakes, lots of sloughs and some points. Also maybe a spinnerbait.

Grew up fishing around there. 1st and 2nd creeks and the sloughs between. Also the elk river a lot. Sure wish I was fishing it this weekend.

Good luck!

Yes, My buddy loves were the state park cove is at. I think you said 2nd creek. I think that is it. just out on the bluffs.
By the looks of elk river the last time I was there it looks like a deep channel on the east side of that creek . I like how the state has all those nice ramps. one at the state park cove and elk river creek.
Rich said all the ramps were free at one time but just started to have a fee couple years now. I told him 50.00 a year is nothing for what the state of NJ gets you for here in NJ. there is one lake here in NJ they charge you 20.00 for oneday ramp fee or 400.00 for the year. This state is a rip off.
That is why I like it there in Al.
Well plain leaves at 7am saturday. going to hit the bed.
If you know any spots were the LM are hinding in those spots 1 or 2 or elk do you mind sharing with me ? I can tell my buddy to try them. He hits the same spots all the time...LOL nothing wrong with it but sometimes good to try something new.
Thanks
jim

On the el k river, I like to go into the back of ande rson creek. Its just north of the main 72 ramp, there is a lot of wood cover back there and some little channels that always hold bass. Go back to where the little bridge is, start on that wall on the left, then go around the corner and fish the little channel on the right.

Never paid for a launch anywhere in those counties. Strange. State must be struggling.

Thanks for that infor. I will tell my buddy. Just got up 2:30am. shower, eat, drive to airport in PA. and hit the plane.
The ramp fee it might be just the state ramps he is talking about. I see on the weather channel 60's degress this coming week :-)

They are all state ramps in that part of the river..

Just looked it up, apparently the big 1st creek ramp is charging now. That is a change. It kinda makes sense though, it is a nice ramp in a state park.

At time or most of the time you can not bet rubber. We also was getting some small LM on hes dock on wheeler, Lucky the bass was small to bring them up 7 feet from waterline to dock...LOL. We were using some of are new floating plastics from Float IT, the curltail worm that floats. Good on an shaky head.
