YUP, I'm already thinkin SPRING!
Well everyone loves frog fishing.
Me too! But Bass love frogs and Fry...so what about tadpoles? http://compare.ebay.com/like/3104021...Types&var=sbar Tadpoles just fill the banks in spring...here anyways. I'm thinking, ballhead jig,1/8 oz., weedless...or not. Maybe an 1/8 oz. 1/0 or 2/0 swimbait hook. Maybe a mini-spinning bait trailer. So what do you think? Not about the poster.....the plastics.

I've watched huge pods of tadpoles swimming unharmed and unafraid within inches of bass actively busting minnows/baitfish. Just like waterbugs, you'd think that gills and bass would gorge themselves on them but don't. Not saying that the tadpole imitators you bought won't catch fish, in fact they probably will, but likely just because they are small and soft NOT because they are mistaken for tadpoles. Let us know either way. Fwiw I've also never cleaned a bass with even one t.pole in his gut.

I'm going to start with a 1/8 oz ball head long shank jig.
I want to be able to swim it then drop it. Kind of a stroke and drop retrieve. May try on football and maybe 1/4 oz. Actually the tails have huge action and may look into drop shotting? Rusty I've never cleaned a Bass before so no idea there. But I have found bellies with tads in early spring Pike. Bottom line, very few strikes come due to actually looking like anything. Look at the color 'fire tiger', very popular. It's usually the action, unless of course blue backs are the forage of choice. My opinion only. And with the banks full of tadpoles yet a very small portion become frogs or toads....something must be eating them. Lastly, most folks I know that harvest bass still aren't harvesting in the 'spring'. Hence no tadpoles. You know what time of year yours are from? They are basically fancy curly tail grubs. Some feel the grubs are better if they are fish shaped, are they? Anyway we'll see.

Mustad makes a hook called the Power Lock Plus. It's like a weighted swimbait hook, but unlike most other swimbait hooks, you can get it in the 1/0 size which I think would be about right for such a small offering. Plus the hooks weight is movable up and down the hooks shaft so you can balance it perfectly for the bait. I've used these hooks and they work very well.
I would also want to try the Gamakatsu weedless split/drop hook, nose hooked to the tadpole bait with perhaps a small split shot pinched tight to the bait. And lastly, if you can either make or buy a J-Rig with a 1/8oz weight for shallow water, that might work well also.

And the Gammy idea.....,they actually have a like hollow half on the front of the nose and this has a hole for EXACTLELY what your thinking of. second half of nose is solid. Actually that's what gave me the drop shot idea. If you look at the pic in the link you'll see it now that your aware of it. Behind the hole it's solid. Where the hole is , is like a hollow tube portion. Hey the guy who makes them is from Augusta, Ga., you know those southern boys know their stuff.
