Default Finesse Cranks

Does that mean just smalling down the size or the noise (no rattle)or the speed?
Or all the above?
Notice finesse crankbaits advertised, just marketing ploy or is there a real difference in action (less wobble)?Any thing can be swam slower.
Whats the difference from a jerk bait and a finesse crank?
A jerkbait or slashbait is considered a crankbait, right?
What are your thoughts?

To me the term finesse says more about how a bait is fished than what characteristics the bait has. A lot of baits that are used almost exclusively for power fishing can still be finesse fished just by changing the presentation. With that in mind, I personally don't consider a crankbait to be a finesse bait regardless of it's size or whether or not it has rattles if it is fished with the traditional presentation such as covering water with it and running it into objects or digging into the bottom. Although the smaller profile or silent crankbaits certainly do have their place in anyones box, the term finesse doesn't really fit in my opinion.

Ken thanks, I actually got that saved and forgot about it till I viewed it again thanks to you.
I'm thinking my 'next how do you do it thread' is going to have be how to organize my site stored threads and posts.
You folks have so many great ideas and I so many dumb a** questions there's so much for me to remember. I do a search and I end up with everything that so much as has the word anywhere in the thread and usually not the one I want. And deleting posts one at a time or all at once drives me crazy. I just leave them all, hence saving them in the first place is futile.
You folks have forgotten more than I know....unfortunatly I'm catching up on the forgotten part faster than the know part.
Sorry, just wanted thank you not bore you.

I think finesse means smaller, slower retrieve and more patience. More Patience? Is that possible?

So finnesse cranks is just a marketing ploy, right?
There are more but heres one,
http://www.cabelas.com/crankbaits-lu...skt-mini.shtml
But I can get alot of 1/4 oz. 2" cranks that aren't labeled finnesse.
Frankly almost every line of cranks has at least one as small as 2
to 2 1/2 in.,
So is it a tight wobble?

I have alot of lippless that are as small as 1/8 oz. but I never considered I was finnesse fishing. Even yo-yoing isn't considered finnesse fishing. These have a tight wobble.

Small cranks to me are more a multispecies bait. They move a little too quick to be true finesse. But clearly, this discussion is semantics.

I've always felt finesse was defined more by my mindset and approach rather than line or lure size or even speed for that matter. If I cast to a specific target or area with the intention of "hand feeding" a lure to fish that I know (or am highly confident) are there...then I'm finesse fishing, whether it's a 4" wacky a #5 rapala or a 10" Culprit. Kind of like feeding a horse a sugar cube or a big granny smith. .......

I believe the phrase "finesse fishing" originally described a technique or method, using light line, downsized baits, presented in a subtle manner. Little subtle crankbaits have been around for 30 or 40 years or longer so I think "finesse crankbait" it is a marketing ploy redifining a lure that's been around for years as something new or different.

These are what I consider finesse type cranks.

Umtil recently I would've called those Crappie cranks, I've had terrible luck finding little cranks like that that'll run true consistantly....who makes those? xps?

Bass Pro, XTS, extreme tournament series. I have not had the chance to fish these yet, but the other small cranks I have are very speed sensitive.

Think the term ultra light is more correct.
I have some as well and tend to toss on spinning or even spin cast(yes zebco 33).
While intended targets are generally smaller not always.

I generally think of UL as the power of a fishing rod. An ultra light rod may be the one of the correct choices for throwing these type of baits, but in my mind does not describe the lure. I might choose to use a 1/64th oz banana jig on an UL rod, which would make these cranks look like monsters.
