Ike is probably good for the sport because he relates well with younger people and seems to work the crowds well at events. He seems to be genuine in some of the things he supports.
Acting foolish after a big fish is landed I some what understand. I do have a problem with him screaming in the fishes mouth. I cannot imagine that is good for the fish and certainly looks like he is disrespecting that which makes him tons of money. |

Question---how many of you guys that don't like Ikes antics when he catches or loses a fish, likes end zone dances or celebrations when a reciever catches a first down pass or a linbacker separates a back from his shoes and gets up does a dance? I'm old school I don't like either, I think you should act you been there before, except in big situations.
I like Ike, when the BassinBandit and I saw him at the Bassmaster Universty and it was all over as we were leaving the hotel we were right behind Ike and another well known pro, ( I won't mention his name). A little kid 10 or 12 yrs old went into convultions (sp), Ike sprang into action like a doctor, called 911 and stayed with the kid and on the phone talking to medical people helping the kid untill they arrived. What was the other pro doing? Standing there smoke coming out his ears because he was afraid they were going to miss their plane. Yes I like Ike, but he is my favorite. I think he is very good for the sport.

By the time someone is old enough to own a boat and be out on the water, (with the exception of catfister of course) their personality traits are pretty well established. Take a look at the group of people closest to you: you have the loud mouth, the quiet reserved guy, the insecure guy, the type A guy, the guy who has all his ducks in a row, the guy who doesn't...etc. A responsible adult who saw Ike act a fool on tv isn't likely to get out on the water and act a fool if it isn't in their nature to do so in the first place. A child who might be influenced by Ike's antics isn't likely to be out on the water piloting a boat.

bcklash I agree with what you guys just said 100%. Act like you have been there before is a phrase that my dad and I use everytime we see someone acting like a fool when they catch a fish or make a big play ect.
Jrob I also agree with you. Like I said earlier, I'm not sure you can hold it against Ike if someone who watches him on t.v. starts acting like a moron.

I think Ike is just genuinely passionate about the competition. You can see the intensity when he's fishing the tournaments, as opposed to watching him on the Fishing City Limits show. I really believe that some of it MIGHT be a stage personna, but the energy is obviously built up and he releases it all at one time when he's in the groove and knows it. You can tell when he's dialed in because that's his way of showing confidence also. I believe that he is absolutely good for the sport, and from what I have heard (and read in this thread) he is obviously very appreciative of his fans and also a very caring person away from the stage.

I too like Ike and think he is good for the sport. Unfortunately I fear he is his own worst enemy. While Ike's struggling on the ragged edge of control, KVD is making casts and calmly refining his presentation.
When I was in sales, we used to talk about Stinkin' Thinkin', also known as thinking negative thoughts. Imagine all the extra energy and creativity Ike could muster if he weren't bogged down by thoughts of doom and gloom. |

I've fished in a tourney that Mike fished(Buggs Island) federation six man team.I met him and he is not what he seems on TV with the tantrums. I believe that's all show..IRL he seems to have such enthusiasm when talking fishing and he's an all around nice guy. I've heard he was a bit of a sh*thead when he used to fish a lot of local T's but you couldn't prove that by me.

Hi, I'm Mike Iaconelli. While some of you may know me for my 2006 Bass Angler Of The Year award, I'm probably better known for my frequent on water tantrums when things don't go my way.
Haven't seen that in a while have you? That's because my doctor prescribed Lithium to help with my violent mood swings. Possible side effects could be, but aren't limited to: Reduced Bait Monkey feeding. More tournament wins. Less stubbed toes. Please consult your physician to see if Lithium is right for you. Lithium. Big fish, happy body

Iaconelli is a very good fisherman, and is probably a GREAT guy to talk with.
But I just prefer the no talk, just fish attitude with some fisherman. KVD is one of my idols, and that's not just because he won the Bass Master's this year, LOL. He just shuts his mouth, and catches fish. I don't fish anything like him, though. He is a fast fisherman who likes to cover water fast. I fish more like Woo Daves, imho, which is another favorite of mine.

I thought that biting the bass's lip instead of yelling was a nice addition to his reputation

I've noticed that whenever Ike is giving tips in the mags, it comes across like he really does wanna share that info.
