I'll elaborate on why I dislike my job. First of all, it's in the aviation field. I know that sounds like a good job, but I'm the person who fuels planes, tow's planes, and generally take care of the pilots and thier passengers. I don't even make $20,000 a year.

My department consists of 12 people, and we're open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As you can see, it's a skeleton crew every day of the week. We are also expected to do 3 other departments jobs, all of which have employee's that make atleast DOUBLE what we're making, on top of taking care of multi-million dollar aircraft, and we're about to take on a 4th department's job under the threat that we'll be replaced if we don't. So now, on top of taking care of planes, pilots, and thier passenger's... we've gotta watch a computer screen to see what's coming in, answer phones, make reservations for pilots and thier crew, clean the lobby, clean the hangers, and now clean the airplanes. We can't be everywhere at once.

Now, some might say I'm just a whiner and any job has it's disadvantages, but I haven't even gotten to the health problems caused by this job. Twice now, my back has gone out, leaving me condemned to a bed for weeks at a time while I see a Chiropractor 4 times a week. I'm only 24 and my back's already going out on me. That's just a job hazzard, like a baseball Catcher has knee problems, a tower WILL have back problems. Finding a new line of work is something my chiropractor recommends.

Next is the noise. I'm working around running jet engines almost my entire day, but I have to be able to hear the radio telling me what's coming next, so I have to leave 1 ear unprotected.

And thirdly, I'm breathing in toxic jet fuel fumes, not to mention jet exhaust. I'm sure that's not doing my brain cells much good. All this for $9.00 an hour with no chance of overtime. The company would rather have the shifts work short then pay someone overtime to take the place of the ill/injured worker. Then there's the ever-present fire-happy boss that makes going to work a joy and a job at the end of the week uncertainty.

And there in is my plight. But thank you all for letting me know what affords you time to fish, I might have to look into those fields.

-Ian

I am an attorney with 2 kids and 2 dogs. The majority of my work is defending Employers when they get sued. I also do some Plaintifff work. I am an associate at a firm that I have been with for 5+ years.

My work job combined with my home job leave almost no time for fishing. When I was a teenager, I fished every week, sometimes 2 -3 times per week. Now, I am lucky if I can get on the water once a month. That said, I thought it was appropriate to use the name "Wishing2BFishing".

And you would think that I would have a decent boat. I don't. Everytime I have some extra money, there is something that comes up. A new house, a repair on the car, furniture for the kids . . . it never ends.

Even though I don't always look forward to going to work, I do enjoy my office days when I can jump on this site and live vicariously through everyone's fishing experiences. Thanks guys!

I am a Network Administrator for a company in Charlotte, NC. Very small company with about 50 employees, so I don't manage much, just 12 servers and about 100 total computers. It is my first year in the field and I am learning qite a bit. I love my job and look forward to coming in everyday. I do hate however, those dadgum virus writers that make me sit here all day clearing out all of their crap that gets installed when one of the company engineers decides to surf the internet without a condominium while at one of the hotels we send them to. I cannot count the times that someone has come back with a non-bootable laptop because of some stupid virus. When they are asked what they did it is always the same answer. "I was just checking email when it went blank and wouldn't come back on."

Yes, we do have in-house virus protection and a damn good one at that. I make sure it runs in tip-top condition. Just that when someone is out and clicks on the file that installs a virus is what kills it. I guess it is job security though. Besides, I wouldn't know about these tools to remove them if they didn't get them and I am not talking about downloading 10 different hard drive scanning programs along with spyware removal tools. I do all the removal manually by back-dooring the virus and removing it. Other than that, I LOVE my job and think of it as a major learning experience.

I'm a meat cutter. I have been cutting meat since I was in the 11th. grade. InEccess, go to the unemployment office and get a Port Authority application. I was out of work for a short time and got hired to drive a bus. I didn't make it through probation due to an accident. If I still held the job I would be making $22.00 per hour. One good thing came out of it though. I have a CDL. So sometimes I get to drive a delivery truck for the company I work for. I would rather be outside than in. I just don't want to drive over the road. Sometimes I hate cutting meat, especially when I have to wait on the public. Right now I am loving it because I have weekends off. Hope that lasts through the rest of the year.

Bob

Hmmm... No job yet, but tomorrow I turn 14 which means there are a few places I could work at. Long term... Looking for a career in medicne. Want to go to Yale, Dartmouth, SUNY (at Stony Brook) or Johns Hopkins. Wouldn't mind Rutgers, as it is close by and a lot of people I know would go there. Isn't as prestigious as I'd hope for though... Either genetics or Viral research. Opthomology if I'm feeling extreme greediness and determination at the same time.

I get SSI for being obsessive-compulsive. The object of my obsessions are bass fishing related and I have strong compulsions to go everyday.

Well let's see...I retired from the Navy after 21 years of faithful service on the high seas...and that pretty much pays the Mortgage. For now I am an Avionics technician for a company that specializes in aircraft modifications for the military...so i kinda get to do what i did while in the Navy (play with old aircraft) and it's not that bad but there are days that i could do without like last week when i had to make a last minute trip to troubleshoot an aircraft issue and spent two days crawling around on my knees, upside down in consoles and stuffed into the hell-hole(and they don't call it that for nothing) tracing 30 year old wiring...i just ain't as young as i used to be so it is a little rough nowadays...but it pays the wifes...i mean the rest of the bills. lol

Hello Bender

Good luck with your new company.
I am in the automation machine business in MI and would like to know more about your tube benders and if you also import tube mills.

Please advise

I have been a cop for 17 years. I just recently changed from the fun job of investigating murders and working nights with crummy day off to the *extremely* dull job of forgery and identity theft investigation. However, I now work days with weekends off and get to see my family. The new job and its hours also mean more fishing!

I tried out for the role of "Foxboner" an adult spoof of the new XXXfiles, but when I couldn't produce one, they told me to get lost. The worst part was when I dropped my brief, Scully started laffing.
