Default setting the hook??

Yesterday I went out and fished the Tiki sticks all you told me about. Well you were right they love 'em, but i seemed to have a harder time setting the hook, I missed at least 6 fish. I was using a 2/0 hook weightless texas rigged. What the heck am I doing wrong?

I can use any hook so long as it is EWG. Also, when you feel the tap tap tap rip there lips off

Use an EWG hook, 2/0-5/0 has worked fine for me. When the fish bites a softbait I let it take the bait for about 2 or 3secs then set the hook. I have a good hookup ratio doing that. When letting it take the bait for a few secs, pay a lot of attention to scent, make sure to not touch the bait too much, and spray some garlic scent on it.

I fish a similar bait, but I'm not having trouble texposed with a 2/0 hook. It could be that you are setting the hook a little quickly....I've been letting them take it a little before yanking. Being that the bait is salted, the bass will carry mine a long way so there is really no rush, in my opinion.

Also make sure you are reeling in any slack in the line before you set the hook. Usually that will give you that extra second or two to make sure the fish has it. Also make sure you are using good sharp hooks.

That's the key right there. I missed 3 fish the other night using Gammys straight out of the package. Wondered why, checked how sharp they were and that was the culprit. If it won't dig into your thumbnail with just a little pressure it needs sharpening.

Gammies that weren't sharp straight out of the package? Never seen that before.
