i use a clear at the top, and white at the bottom 4" long fluke, is a red hook alright to use? Or would it show through the body? I have tired it and it is really visible from a long distance? What do u guys think?

I don't think it is going to matter at all. The fish will not see the color of red as you see it. Try it and if you don't like it you can always change out. Good luck and happy fishing.

Flukes are one of the most versatile baits out there IMO. I usually fish them weightless, but will put a 1/16th oz bullet weight(pegged) when I want it deeper. I like to work them very fast over vegetation at times, or dead sticking them. Depending on the size the hook should be matched up to it. I pretty much always fish them rigged weedless, just less chance to get hung up. If I'm fishing it in open water, I will expose the hook. I like to use the smaller flukes with the drop shot variation with a PNJ. Meaning instead of just a weight on the end I have a PNJ, and then the small fluke up about 12"-18" as the drop shot bait. I have caught fish on both the fluke and PNJ, but not at the same time yet. I would also say that mostly I fish the Alewife(shad) color, but as JB stated in certain lakes/ponds the greens or even in Florida the solid black was more successful for me. The finishing nail is also a good trick to add weight. If I was limited to fishing 1 bait the rest of my life(someone shoot me if that's the case) it would be a fluke.
