i have 3. one 1947 made by pflugher, one made around 1953-western auto- and my lastest one a 1965 glass master-sears-. the 47 is a 6 foot glass stick and with out a reel on it. it weighs almost the same as my fenwick 7'6'' flippin stick with a daiwa reel.. i have fished with them and let me state here and now. you definatly need to eat your wheaties to fish all day with them...

Lol. The only reasonably priced ones I seem to be able to find are the Lamiglas crankin sticks.

Jools Browning makes a nice glass rod for $35.00. Siliflex is the name of it.I went to tell you the model number but I loaned it to my friend last summer for a tournament.I just remembered that he hasn't bothered to bring it back yet. C-Bird

I don't know much about cheap rods, but is there any way that rod can even compare to a Lamiglas?

Absolutely you can compare the 2 .I will give you 13 reasons

1. They are both fishing rods
2. they are both made from Fiberglass
4. they both are heavier in weight than a graphite rod.
5. They are used to present the same lures.
6. they both have a reel attached to them.
7. Did you notice I missed number 3 ?
8. They both catch fish.
9. They both have line guides.10. they both have handles.
10.You can't be serious to think they are even remotely comparable.
12.Oops I missed 11 as well.
13. people who fish buy them.
131/2. No Jools I cannot think of them as being comparable.

Well said, Ivan, well said...

-Lunk-

P.S. - I've never bought a bass rod cheaper than $125 though...

jooleyen, if you want a fiberglass rod, go to garage sale or estate sale. heck..next time you're at the landfill, look around there too. you won't believe what folks throw away. i got an ugly stick and dozens of zebco 33's at the landfill. clean em out , greese em. fish em. got a couple of other rods outa there too. but you can find glass rods at flea markets and other places cheap. i got a few but haven't used them yet. gota replace the eyelets. the old ones rust out pretty quick.

Bam, Jools has aquired a taste for higher end brand named rods. One has to extremely careful which is the higher end, the rod itself or the price tag it carries.

Jools, if you want the very best for your money you should consider custom built rods instead of the high end factory made rods. C-Bird

#1 reason for fishing a glass rod YOU CANNOT (UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS BREAK) IT.

I have a 7' M Silaflex paired to my Daiwa BG13. Excellent redfish-trout rod. It is heavy, the BG is a heavy reel so I decided on a glass rod after seeing the special on delphfishing from daiwa's website. They only use glass rods for that reason you can put a whuppin to one and it wont break.

I also have a glass Berkley spinning rod from the late 70's called a bucaneer, yellow in color, that makes a good light pier rod. I dont think there is a bass that fights hard enough to "need" a glass rod but a Silaflex gives you the best feel in glass rods IMO.

Default Each rod has a usage.

I have two fiberglass rods.

One is a Lammy used for braid and steel in the surf.. It is forgiving and I can load it up with 2 ozs real good and not cut thru my finger on a spin reel.

The second is most likely the best rod I have ever purchased. It is a St Croix Premier Glass 7 foot baitcaster. Couple with an ABU round reel and some power pro this rod can handle 40 inch rockfish verticle jigging stingsilvers and a 14 trout next fish without ripping the lips off the trout.
It gives enough to allow those soft mouth fish to stay attached and has enough backbone to handle giants..

There is no way I'm leaving fishing. I was just kidding.

So now I've got a couple of options that I like having

The Lamiglas Certified Pro Fiberglass - http://lamiglas.com/prod_indiv.php?id=34

Daiwa S-Series (this is fiberglass, right?) - http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0036177120552a.shtml

St. Croix Premier Glass

Quantum Tour PT or Energy PT - I can't really figure out which, because they aren't too clear with their rod specifications.

This is pretty much all I've come up with. Which would you pick and why? What's lightest? Are there differences in materials? What?

Lunk do not judge that rod by its price alone.

I have a 7' medium Quantum KVD signature series rod. I like, it is a little heavy to use after a while, and its not near as sensitive as a graphite, which sometimes I get hung up because I don't feel the structure as well.
