Default Isolated cover

ok, I read that big bass usually hold to isolated structure. On my lake, there are stumps and small brush piles at depths of over 10 ft. There are also some poles sticking out of the lake bottom here and there at depths of about 7 ft. Say I spot a large fish on some of these isolated structures... what should I use? I tried football jigs, but they don't do too hot in this lake....

thanks,

sp

Default Do this!

Use a spinnerbait! Cast past the structure at a med to slow speed, use your rod tip to pulse the shirt. When you come to close to the structure speed it up past the structure. take some pictures

PS Go on a windy day with slight overcast thats the key for this pattern.

You could also try dropping a senko by the stumps.

You can throw anything you want as long as you get it down to the cover you are fishing.

I had a crazy New Yorker tell me to run a short leader Carolina rig by submerged stumps. That seems to work pretty well. But really anything you can get down there will work as long as that's what the fish wants. And nobody on this board can tell you for sure what that is.

You may want to try a suspending bait.

rattlin raps would work good because they will sink right down to the cover

What I do with VERY good success is fish worms or jigs when the fish are not very active. Another GREAT way to hang em is use a crank that digs deeper than the water you are fishing. Bagleys Balsa B's are FANTASTIC for this. Long cast past the structure and slow crank into and around the cover. If it's small enough cover fish the outside edges first then start throwing so you will actually come though it. Bass will hold just off the cover alot of the time and move into feed.

If you fish a clear water lake try casting popper type baits over structure. A lot of the time this will pull the bass to the surface. If you fish mostly dark water try using a crankbait that dives not quite as deep as the structure. If you can get within one or two feet of the structure you will catch fish.
