Snow at the Classic? I doubt Ray Scott ever envisioned that one.

I like this entry...

Jitters

6:18 AM CST, FEB 20, 2013 | BY PETE ROBBINS

After launching his boat this morning, Brent Chapman called over friend and fellow competitor Alton Jones: "Hey Alton, can I get a little bit of help?" Jones motored over. "You'd think this was my first rodeo," Chapman continued. "I left my transom saver on."

Jones helped him to get it off, then offered Chapman some words of advice: "If you ever win Angler of the Year, maybe you'll figure it all out."

Seems that even stars get a few jitters at the Classic.

-------------------

I'm not a fan of them letting the field know where other competitors are fishing. What do you guys think? I haven't heard what the latest is on this, though.

BASSTrakk stirs controversy with anglers

5:53 PM CST, FEB 19, 2013 | BY JIM SEXTON

The hottest topic of today's Classic angler briefing was the new edition of BASSTrakk we are planning to launch this week. The new version of BASSTrakk includes a map where the public can see where anglers are fishing-- not exact GPS locations, but the general vicinity.

The anglers were fine with the public seeing the BASSTrakk map. They agree this will generate more interest in the sport. But when Tournament Director Trip Weldon mentioned that competing anglers would be able to look at the BASSTrakk map during competition, several anglers voiced dissenting opinions.

The angler viewpoint, at least the ones who spoke up, felt it would be unfair for the competitors to view everyone's location. Several said that if a guy finds a great spot, and has it to himself, showing the other competitors his location on a map could be a game changer.

The BASS management team listened to the various points of view. We're going to sleep on it, and decide in the next day or two how to proceed.

Stay tuned!

Guys I am so excited for this Classic to go down on my home lake. I have seen them fish Grand a few times, and they always impress. But this one is the "Big Dog" of bass tournaments. The weather here is horrible for fishing. We have had sleet and snow pretty much nonstop since lastnight, it finally let up around noon or so today and all the roads are a mess. Travel is going to be a challenge and especially for the anglers making the 90 mile one way trip from the lake to the weigh ins. Regardless of how bad the weather is, I think they are about to light this lake up. My guess is there will be some guys who will probably struggle with these tough conditions. These guys are all top notch anglers no doubt about it, but it seems like conditions like these always spin out a few guys in the field. I also predict that a few guys will just wreck em'. At the risk of tipping my hand for my fantasy fishing team, here are my picks.

1. Mike McClelland. Not much of a surprise here. Grand is his home lake, and there isn't anyone in the world that is better with a jerkbait than this guy. And a jerkbait will be a huge factor this time of year on Grand. A jig will also probably play a big role, especially the first day if the weather forecast is right. Mike Mclelland is a stud with a jig rod as well.

2. Edwin Evers. I really felt like this was his tournament to lose a few weeks ago. The weather up to that point was setting up perfect for him. I have seen several of the anglers spending time on Grand this past fall/winter, but nobody spent as much time on Grand as E2. With as much experience as he gained on Grand, I really expected to see a two horse race between E2 and Mike McClelland and it still might happen that way but I really feel like this winter weather might have favored McClelland and probably didn't do Evers any favors.

3. Jason Christie. He is a local stick that has won a lot of money on Grand in the past. In fact I have probably funded much of his fishing expenses over the last several years in tournaments that I fished against him in. He is a rookie that will have to deal with a lot of high expectations and the media that comes with it, but he isn't a typical rookie. This dude is as calm and cool as a veteran, and he can flat wear them out on Grand.

Not many surprises there I know, but those are my picks. We will be spending a lot of time at the Classic and I will try to post some pictures on here.
