Put a pencil through the center of the spool and somebody hold it as you wind it on. No help? Hold the pencil between your feet and wind it on. Rocket science it ain't .

I 2nd the phone book. I use it as well to keep tension on the line. When without a phone book I often run my line all the way down the rod tip through all the eyes and then into the reel. I'll then run the line through my lips for tension.

nothing better than running the line under the phone book, can't beat the price. I've done it with the spool sitting on it's side and with a pencil at a 45 degree angle stabilized with a vice, with the same net difference. What really matters is using a high quality line.
