Try a long rod. I like a fast tip.

Patience buddy. Patience and keep throwing them. Sooner or later you will be able to tell the difference between cover and/or structure and a bass. But in the mean time remember that hooksets are free.

Well use 14 lb test or above, I really don't think braid is any better feel wise for jig fishing, but there are alot of people who will tell you different.I use braid , because it cuts through the weeds, the heavier lb test braid seems to cut through the grass better than the thin braid for some unexplainable reason and its easier for me to see it as well.I watch the line 2 different places as I pitch. I watch the line as it disapears into the water and I watch the line as it comes off the spool to the first guide. You have to learn to hold the rod in front of you to watch both at the same time.Tell tale signs are the line going in the water starts to swim away, or if the slack line snaps upward a split second, or jerks as its coming off the reel as the jig is falling. If you see the line snap upward in a unmistakenable way, most likely you have had the best fish of the day on your jig, hold on to your rod when you set the hook. I pitch & flip the same free spool the reel, I don't flip with the reel engaged holding the slack line in my free hand to control the jig presentation.Well I just lied, I will flip when I have found the fish concentrated in a certain spot that is in less than 4 ft. of water or less. Its fasterthan reeling and free spooling as you do when pitching, but 4 ft is definately the deepest water I will fish when flipping as everyone else does.I also look to increase my bites per pitch, by targeting the things that are different looking from the immediate area.It can be some as little as a clump of thicker weeds to something as obvious as a cut , or indentation in a weedbed edge.I hope this helps you, instant message me if you have specific questions, maybe I can help you. bass1
took me about a year of constant throwing one before i caught a fish on one. fer me i find that draggin the pnj in a stiff dead stick style gets the bites. i have caught no huge ones but my pb is about 2 pounds. but i am still playing with them and learnin what works when and colors.
