Default 9-9-07

Today I went out fishing with my POPs at around noon. Within the first 20 min. I landed a 9 inch bass of a worm. Then right after releasing him I got a 7in. For about two hours just catching blue gill and crappie, I landed this HUGE fish 21in(I dont know the name of it, but the ones who eat all the fungus, its not a carp.) I have pics wich i will post later.

There are actually many kinds of carp-they differ greatly in looks though... probably a grass carp?

If the scales were large and the fish didnt have a sucker-like mouth, then grass carp... Do a search on carp and youll probably find the one it was. Im sure it was a carp, nothing else around here eats weeds..

Wierd looking fish, Probably those smaller things you put in aquiariums that suck around all the gunk? Im guessing someone put it in the lake a while ago, Dont think those are native.

Deffinitely quite odd, did you release it back into the lake? Thats crazy how a grass sucker hit an artificial, musta been dead sticking it haha.

Its something exotic, probably was released by somebody. Might want to shoot a email or a phone call to your local fishing and wildlife conservation office, just in case... never hurts. An email would probably be most productive, as you can include the picture.

Some sort of plecostamus I would guess from looking at it... couple dozen sub-species, and most of them can get pretty damn big. Almost looks like an armored pleco, but the coloring is wrong.

I believe that is a Plecostmus (My dad used to raise fish). They are the little fish people put in fish tank that suck crap from the sides of the tank, its just a really big one, things like that and carp for example grow to their surroundings, if you put one in a fish tank, it wont get that big, but you throw er in a lake, and it gets big.

My dad wanted to see the fish, so he's sitting here with me and he said it is a plecostmus. there are many different species of them. as for why someone put it in the lake, I don't know. We have a lake up near us that is good trout fishing and someone put some Koi in there. They are really big for koi now because they live in a large area for them.

My dad is telling me about a lake near Cleveland, OH that some years ago a guy caught two 8" pirahana [SP?]. It's things like that that mess up good fishing for other people. Just like snakeheads.

cya, my dad says bye too.
