Dogfight
Must be the change in weather, from mid 90s to 70 today with a low of 40ish in the morning....we let my pack of dogs out tonight to play ball and the two alpha dogs got the pack into a helluva dog fight.
The collies bowed out quick and my one year old lab did too, but the Benji and minature grey hound went at it tooth and nail! blood everywhere, my wife had the Benji trying to pull it off the grey hound, those smaller dogs always attack and bite the ears of the bigger dogs, blood everywhere. I ran out to the back of the lot where the dogfight was going on, grabbed the one (my favorite btw) by the neck and separated him, then threw it headfirst over the fence into the garden. Needless to say whats weird, I come in and feel like kicking all their asses, only to find the same two dogs on the couch laying by each other, like nothing happened ...about 10 minutes after the rumble .. |

You happen to see Mike Vick around???
Anyways one thing many people dont know about trying to stop dogfights... yelling and screaming and other loud noises only make the dogs fight harder. The best thing to do is get them seperated like you did. Although in fights even your best pal doggy can be completely oblivious to who you are and bite you when trying to seperate them, so be careful!

You got a ball playing pack of dogs that fight?
Now I'm confused. I thought only packs of ball players host dog fights . |

wanting to kick their asses is a sign that you're the alpha male around there. when they saw you pull one dog off and throw it, it quickly showed the pack who the true alpha was which put both of the fighting dogs at ease, hence why they were laying next to each other afterwards.

We are starting to use the shock collar on a couple of them, but mostly to curb the barking when someone comes to the door, or to keep them from fighting when they are let out of the house to go run / poop..so far its working on two of them, using a slight shock and a tone, then just the tone.
It has a more powerful medium setting and a Kapow setting that we havent used yet, prob wont go that strong unless they go apesh*t again. |

I once decided to try the effectiveness of a shock-collar... held it in my hand, metal prongs into palm, and ran past the boundary line, all it did was make a high-pitched ring. Can you just set it so it makes noise, and not shock?

yes ours has a high pitched tone that you can tell the dog hears, I've heard it a few times, then theres 3 more settings for shock only.....glad we never could afford these while the wife was training me back in the 80s LOL

Haha!
Guess that was the deal then, it was set on just sound. Would have been pretty funny though if it would have been set on shock, watching me throw it away and yelp like a little girl ahhaah.

I used a shock collar on my pup (92 pound Shepard). The higher settings will make them jump out of their skin. Did it once and felt bad. However, If I even pick up the collar now- halo's appear around his head. I changed direction for the constant barking w/ a citrus spray collar. Three barks and he gets a snoot full of a potent citrus type spray. Seems to work when I remember to put it on. Doesn't work on women or children though.

ours is putting on the halo too, its amazing just what a slight shot and a few tones can do. We tried it on the smallest dog the other day and the shocker didn't make her jump or go apeshYt at all...the bigger dogs must be able to feel the pain more huh
