Default Weekly Lake Fork Fishing report -Guide Jim Reaneau

Well, the fishing has gone crazy. The fish are hitting almost anything you wont to throw. The key is get out early and fish around the grass. When the sun gets up move out a little and switch to a Texas or Carolina rig. Small baits have been good. The fish have been small with a few good fish mixed in. Lipless crank baits, tail spinners, small crank baits and spinner baits have caught the schooling fish. Keep one tied on and when they come up throw past them and bring the bait to where they came up and let the bait stall then reel again and this should draw a strike. Weightless baits like Wave Tiki Sticks, Lake Fork Tackle ZigZag, wacky worms are all good choices around the grass.
The water is in the upper 70 to real low 80’s. The bait are stacking up in the creeks and working the bends and long stretches with deep crank baits can be a good pattern. Carolina and Texas rigs will work if the structure will let you work them through without hanging up to much. Don’t cuss the little fish as they are the future 7 to 10 pound fish and some will make the teens. Handle them carefully release then carefully. These small fish will be caught many times this month and to ensure they survive we need to handle them careful.
The crappie are getting better as the weather stays cool. We need a little cold weather to get the big fish up and moving. We are catching plenty of small fish with some good fish mixed in. Jigs, baby bass assassins, and minnows are all working. Look in water 28 to 30 foot deep and they should been suspended around 15 to 20 feet.
Don’t forget this is a good time to fill your freezer for the winter with bar fish or crappie. Give me a call if you wont to book a trip.
