Anchor Rope

Since we're going all-out fixing our boat, I figured new anchor rope would also be in order. Might as well get it now and be happy then be driftin' the lake like a goof-ball .

So..... What brand would you recommend in terms of rope companies, lenghts, diameters, etc. Here is one I've been looking at so far.

I bought mine on ebay they have pages of boating rope.

We had an 18' Fourwinns with a 100' rope 3/8" thick, nothing special and it worked for almost 20 years with no issues (well, some drunk ran it over and cut it)... but I just tied the two ends together and it lasted till we sold it last summer. I'm guessing that you aren't going to be throwing a 15lb anchor and a 5' chain... so you won't need top of the line rope...

I actually carry two, depending on they type of lake bottom, how strong the winds and the depth of the water. One time you might want one that really "bites" into the bottom of the water, another time you might want one that simply sits on the bottom.

I do the same as PJack-welcome to the forum, BTW!

50-100' of 3/8" nylon rope works just fine. I have 50' on each of my anchors and no problems.

What anchors do you guys use exactly?

we used a fluke style. But that was for a very heavy boat. Depending on bottom conditions and boat size you could use mushroom or a river anchor. Some people use two anchors if it's windy. Just my thought.

Nothing wrong with it, but you are overthinking this boat rebuild if you are concerned with brand of anchor rope. I havent even used and anchor in ages. Nylon rope will do though.

One neat little toy that I put on my last boat though, and I will do the same on this one, is create a retractable boat tie down using one of the retractable dog leashes. Just put one underneath the back of the front deck, tied to small nylon rope which is the tie down line, drill a hole high up on the bow and feed the line through that hole and tie a not so it doesnt retract all the way back into the hull. Might be a bad explanation, but maybe yall see what I'm saying. Keeps the tie down rope out of the way. Don't really need a strong tie down rope anyways.
