Default schools of fish

i was at my friends house and we were fishin for about 2 hours and hadnt caught anything. then this man about 10 yards away from us had a rattle trap. he caught about a 2 pounder. me and my friend went and got a rattles shad too.i casted about ten yards from where that guy had casted. i reeled it in but didnt catch anything. the next cast i casted in the same spot and reeled real fast to give it more sound, and i realed it in and caught about a 2 pounder. my friend casted about 10 yards from where i casted and caught another about 2 pounder.do u think that that was a school of fish?

Maybe a spot to remember thats for sure, next time when you throw that
trap out, let it sink a few seconds, reel it in and then stop reeling, then start again, many times the bass will strike that lure on the fall, especially
if you can run it over a weedbed area.

sounds like you were either on a school, or there was a piece of structure there that many fish were relating too, but to catch 3 fish that quickly on a bait like that, more than likely it was a school.

I think it is most likely to be a little bit of cover but it could be a school

i have hit schooling fish before at some larger lakes, and even some smaller ponds. A Rat - L - Trap is a good lure, i like chrome/black, and chrome/blue!

scrap,
i fish the tiny and mini trap ( 1/8) and (1/4) in a chrome blue or black, with a steady retreive. I let them sink anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds, and then starting in with a constant retreive. Best areas is ripping them over weedbeds or around rocks/timber. I use the 1/8 oz lure at small ponders because the minners and shad is smaller. I use the 1/4 oz. one at large reservoirs and lakes becasue the forage is bigger. I especially love the chrome/blue for fishing lake erie. I can almost always go off the sandusky bay and get a nice stringer in like an hour. Good Fishing!
