Anybody make an oversized fluke?
Do yall know of any companies who make an oversized fluke bigger than the 5" and 6" inch flukes? Maybe something like a 7-9" little bit wider than normal but same design as the zooms with split tail and split body for hook insertion? Think something like this would be an awsome bait to target the bigger fish during this part of the year when the big ones are looking for an easy high calorie meal. Sick of catching dinks.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DO HANDPOUR'S, do you have to buy the molds to pour the plastic into or can you make them yourself? If you think you can make something like this, shoot me a pm, would be interested in quite a few.

Man Rob I've thought about getting into pouring myself just to make that very bait. About 8 inches, use a 5/0 superline hook - good grief I don't see why it hasn't been done. Could you imagine it around hydrilla beds down there? I actually started carving a mold one day, was gonna make some, but got away from it.

even with 3/0 I get a good hookup, usually use 4 and 5/0 and get even better hookups.
thanks reb, I'm gonna send you a check for a million bucks, hope you don't mind if it bounces like a rubber ball, heck I might even kiss ya if we ever meet. Was hoping for something with a split tail but oh well, beggars can't be choosey. Wonder how much wider it is than the zoom supers? So where do you want me to send this bouncy ball?

zook, try sliding the hook all the way through the slot and back of the fluke so the barb and hook point are even with the backside of the fluke, you'll have a much better hookup ratio. Also try it weightless, I always have much better luck with weightless flukes.

Bass Assassin makes a 7" model.
It has a rat tail, so it doesn't meet your requirement for a split, fluke-type tail. However, it's almost identical to the Fluke in all other respects. I've used 5" Assassins and Flukes for about 10 years and can't see a whit of difference between them as far as numbers or quality of fish caught. In the 5" size, the Assassin is about 15% heavier than the Fluke.

The only weighting I ever do for a fluke is a split shot or 2 about 12 inches up the line. I don't like putting too much weight in near the actual lure at all, I'm even begining to think inserting nails into the plastic are a bad idea. The action of a fluke depends on the size of the bait vs the weight of the hook and the stiffness of the line. The smaller your hook, the lighter your line, the more it darts. Now moving up to a 7 or 8 inch fluke automaticly means you can accomodate a larger heavier hook and stiffer line.
