I want to add that I am all jazzed up about this trip.

In 2002 I stopped fishing the Swatara Creek area due to a huge fish kill. After 5 years of spending most of April up there living in the Red Roof Inn and guiding each day I really look forward to going back. The fish are back in numbers from every one I talked too. A few big ones I hear but it will always be better in my memories. In 1997 we got an average of 10 smallies over 4lbs each day. It was as good and sometimes greater till the end in 2002.

I would have breakfast in the Waffle house each morning and the wattress would ask why I have a boat in the parking lot. I explained I go where the fish are and they are here. She just shock her head in disbelief.

OK. I am not very familiar with this particular area, is this stretch good for props? I have had my boat up there and had to only use my trolling motor in parts due to the depth...or lack there of! I interviewed in harrisburg last Thursday and there is a good chance i will be moving within the next few weeks. Very interested tho, have had some good success with nice size and qty of smallies in the Ferry boat campground area, if you know where that is.

Thanks again!

Hey Capt, is this the same gettogether being planned in the other thread? I think the town was Jonestown for that one

Yes I know that area in Harrisburg. The water is thin down below the rollover dams as well. But then again there is some good fishing within a short slow motor run of the ramp. Plus the creek has some good spots as well.

I would not pop a glass boat up on plane even though I have seen it done many times. Crazy locals I guess.

In June it will be running a little thin but not as much as in August.

Yea more typo's due to olives soaked in vodka I guess. Later in the thread I fixed it. Besides Jonestown is two more hours away for you..

My bad.. YES the same plans but a better choice of hotel now.

OK I like it.. We have about ten people coming and I will take care of food and beverage on Sat back at ramp.

Basstom plates and stuff like that would be great.

I will continue this idea later.

Hey guys have fun and be safe. Last time I fished in PA, I didn't need a license, but my dad did. It was like 25 or 26 bucks for a 1 day non-res! a 7 day is more than I pay for a yearly non-res in MI. Pretty expensive. anyways, when we went, we were told our licenses had to be displayed where they could be easily viewed, but I think it was because we were steelhead fishing, I'd check into it though.

I bought a season non-resident license.I'll probably be fishing the lehigh at some point this year.Something like $52.
I think Pa. is a little more anal about displaying than Jersey is.In Jersey I have always kept my license in a plastic folder with my Boating cert. and my N.J. FISH&GAME VOLUNTEER I.D.That may be why they never bother me.ya think?

All,
Sorry I won't be able to make the event. I really would have liked to fish it but with everything going on I just can't make it. I sent Capt. Mike a mix of some small sample bags of some of the custom tubes I've had made or purchased in the past couple months. I've sent some 4" Flipping/Fathead tubes and some 4" or 3" Goliath tubes in each bag.

Give me some feedback on them, good or bad, since they are new and some haven't been tested yet.

Thanks and have fun.

I used to fish there a lot make sure you have flukes as well. try a double fluke rig. get a small split ring(smaller than the eye of the hook) put on the line and the tie the hook below the split ring. from the split ring tie 6-8" length of line and another hook has a good look in the water takes some time getting used to casting but a very good rig. A chrome blue back bandit 100 also.

I am giving a thumbs up to the plan Cranky.

Now comes the best part.

The cell number swap and menu.

I am cooking for ten so I am cooking chicken and hot sausage links. I have a case of gatoraide and a case of water. I have a large cooler to chill them down in and about 10 assorted bags of soft baits to hand out.

I will arrive at Red Roof about 9pm ish and my cell is 202 439 1410.

Oh and yes you must display your license in PA.

This is going to be a fun weekend.
