Default Keel guards

I know it's been a loooong time since I have posted anything here and I hope it's ok to come back and pose this question:

Does having a Hamby or any other brand of keel guard affect the top speed of your boat?

I've never ran a boat with one and very, very seldom run WOT to top speed, so it really doesn't matter much to me. I was just wondering. They seem like a really good thing to have on a f'glass bass boat and worth the money.

It's just one of those things that popped onto my noggin right before going to sleep last night.

No when placed correctly mostly out of the water on plane, enables one to land virtually anywhere beach or ramp without rubbing a hole in the bottom v.
Your a regestered member so why should anyone mind.
With say a race boat it might, but you are not doing 90+ either.
Lost speed with addons even skeg plates or torque tabs one screws in over existing are mostly myth with the average bass boat, have installed both and lost no speed at all,the hambys is out of the water when planing, unless bow down.It will not cause handling problems but will save the bottom of the boat and increase its value somewhat if not keep its value if installed correctly-have a dealer put it on,or mechanic.

You ever get something so stuck in your head and when you find out the answer is so obvious, it make you feel dumber'n a box of rocks?

Of course, lilmule you are as right as rain. I was so concerned about the question, I hadn't thought through the obvious.

It embarrasses me that my first post back was so weak. I'll try and do better.

Not really weak, many make the same mistake and think it would ,without thinking where it is located,so you are not alone.Hey feel free to jump in anywhere.
Embarresed lol I sank my boat once placing plug in wrong hole,in all fairness had nuemonia, two blocked arteries, and had a heart attack a week later.People I run into still remind me of that stupid mistake duh no oxygen or blood getting to brain ,heart, but they remind me none the less.I didnt say this to get prodded about it either, just that we make far worse mistakes and it was in question form was it not.
So post away, place could use some fresh questions or ideas.
It is better to let someone whos installed one do it ,I cant stick it down in a straight line, you more or less get one try.
I call a backlash what it is a professional over spin-humor is the cure to many ails.

i didn't think it was weak either possum. in fact.....it got me to thinking woould it bother the top speed IF it ran farther down. like if one was to say....add 2 or make it twice as long as the original length.

Just to stir the pot...

There's even a small chance it would increase top speed if it ran a tiny bit down. If it were to extend just under the water line , it might "spray" air bubbles out to the sides, it would increase the turbulence under the pad, which always adds speed. It would have to be just perfect though, and would depend on type of hull, freeboard, etc.

On either Keelguard's or Keelshield's website, they say that PWC (jet fleas) might run 2-3 mph faster with the guard attached.
Possum....don't worry about it. There's no such thing as a stupid question. Unless you try asking Bama how to catch big fish, or NoFear how to fish any other way besides trolling. THOSE would be stupid questions.....

I've got one on my boat and it doesn't run any faster or steer any better. It does make hitting the bank for a bathroom break easier in the two TVA rock quarries I fish in though.
