Default Setting up Humminbirds?

I bought a 1996 Starcraft Starcaster 1700 last February, which is my first bass boat. I love the boat, but, the fish finders were lacking. I took full advantage of Tackle Warehouse's Black Friday sale & bought both a Humminbird 597ci HD DI for the console & a 596c HD DI for the bow.

I won't be installing the units on the boat until Spring, but, is there anything else I should know as it pertains to how to route the finders? Do I just connect them straight to the battery?

Thanks in advance fellas!

You can connect off power at the bow,for the one unit and power off the main for the console unit, either via a spade connector, they are already or should be on breakers.
If not inline fuse is a good idea, most older boats already have a wire waiting that someone has had power to one at one time or place, take a look around .
Do not hook to trolling motor wiring, will cause it to blank out when you turn troller on.
So no you dont have to run wires all the way back to the start battery.
Just use existing.

$$$$$$$$$$$ - the side imaging units are about twice the price. Don't ask me how I know. Actually, if I were doing it all over again I would put a down imaging unit at the bow. The side imaging unit can be a PITA with the transducer mounted on the trolling motor. Every time you change direction the image on the screen is distorted. I have a 797cSI upfront and with that 5" screen it's not easy to read it while standing up. The 1197cSI is much easier to read, obviously, but mines at the helm and doesn't do me much good when I'm on the front deck so I usually shut it off when I'm leave the seat. I'm seriously thinking of removing the SI unit upfront and going to a strictly DI next year. If anyone has a 597ciHDDI they would like to trade, let me know

Sure, anytime. The 797cSI also has down imaging and that's usually the screen I look at. You're certainly welcome to go out on my boat and check them out on the water and get some hands on experience. Dale may be a good test, as it seems from talking to NFE, that we may be deep water fishing more so than what I'm used to.

Yeah, money was certainly a huge factor. My boat cost $3000 so I'd say $1100 in electronic upgrades is a good chunk. I probably wouldn't have upgraded @ all had it not been for the sale & my Mastercard.

One thing to do is read the manual then read it again. Plus they sell a 110 adaptor on ebay that allows you to play with the units off the boat. The more you know about any unit before hitting the water puts you way ahead..
Shoot I bought the 987c-Si when it first came out, and did not fish for 5 days but learned the unit. The same with my Matrix 97, it pays off big time on the water to know the unit before using one.

I fixed that for you. If you want to understand it, that is.

Well, I went ahead & found a good deal on a Humminbird 798ci HD SI Combo so now I'll have this unit @ the console & the 596 DI @ the bow. Should be good to go now.
