Default Fish Finder/Depth Gauge in-line fuse

Here's the deal I went fishing yesterday, and all of the sudden my depthfinder wouldn't come on I checked the plug in on the bottom and found nothing. Today before I put my boat in the water I found my in-line fuse had come apart, and the fuse was missing Anyways the ends were very corroded, so I just cut the ends off, and twisted the wires together. Works great now Is the in-line fuse a neccessity, and if so what in the amp is needed for the Depthfinder if anyone knows. I would prefer to just use a water proof connector and remove the fuse altogether if this is OK

i remove the in-line fuse on all my finders..but,i am tied into a fuse panel.if you are running it right off the battery it is a good idea to have a fuse there.although i can't see the point, because if the fuse blows,it means there's probably a dead short in your unit.in which case the finder is shot anyway...you can pick up the in line fuses at any auto supply..tip:get the in line fuse with the new style plug ins..they stay in place better.

I think it is a good Idea to have an inline fuse there. It protects the digital circuitry from most spikes or surges in the current. Digital electronics can be very easily damged by an electrical surge and being most sonar units have a short warranty, unless you don't mind it being down for the 2 to 6 weeks of time it takes to get repaired. I don't know that there is a general amperage for inline fuses for sonars...I would think not though but you might consult the literature of the unit, or ask someone who sells the same brand and does installations.

That in line fuse could save ya a costly dash board fire, or a electronics fire, I've seen both and it happens pretty darn quick!

That cheap little fuse could save your finder or boat someday. Not having it there is similar to not have breakers or fuses in your house and having it direct wired. Not a good idea. Just my 2 cents worth.
