Always good to check and inspect your lights and reseal for the year while your boat is not being used as muck. Alot of tickets are handed out because of improper trailer lighting. A real good idea when making any connection with any method you choose is to use liquid electracal tape. Can be bought at wally world or any parts store and makes a waterproof seal at the connection. Also change out those bulbs if you have the standard type 1157 and 1156 bulbs in your lights. Before reinstalling the lenses using clear silicone run a small bead around the sealing surface and tighten accordingly. On the rear DOT lights make sure they are working properly as well as your side clearance lights. A local law enforcement friend did tell me that they are cracking down on the light situation .

Also if your lights aren't working properly it could also be the car's wiring. I tried to get the lights right on my old trailer for 6 months. Then Once the bearings blew out and I got a new trailer the light situation was still the same. It ended up being that the wiring on the car was screwed up. I followed the wiring all the way up near the engine before I found out where it was bad. So it might not be the trailer's fault all the time but it usually is.

i just had to get round and replace my sealed lights with led lights sweet ... not cheap..

zooker...those lights rock...but defenitly not cheap. something like $25 for one tailight!

Everybody listen to lonestar, hes right. Had the same thing happen to me last year about this time, and I had spent a day fooling with the lights. Also I highly, highly recomend the new LEDs. One of the best new products I've seen to hit the market.

Thanks for the reminder! One of my lights in the back is burned out. Went out to check it after reading this thread and discovered they are in a sealed capsule, and apparently I have to replace the whole capsule. Hope I don't have to order them!

A tip about trailer lights that can save you lots and lots of time and aspirin. Go to a local parts store or Wally-World automotive department and buy an electrical test tight, the kind with a pointed end and a wire coming out of the handle with a alligator clip on it. All you have to do is turn your lights on, clip the alligator clip to the trailer frame and poke the pointed end of the test light into the wire you are testing. If the handle lights up, you have power and the problem is with the light bulb or socket. If the handle does not light up, you need to check the wire ahead of the plug in from the vehicle. If it lights up, then the problem is in the plug in.

Led's are great. I however bought a set through BPS about 1 1/2 years ago for $50. They are outstanding lights. Make sure you seal your connections correctly though. Either the liquid electrical tape or waterproof connectors. The connections are where most lights fail IMO.

i had the same set up about $40 for the capsule. went with oval leds and yes $80 EACH!!-as tom said- lizard i use soilderless butt splicers i fill both ends with silicone and use a srink tubing over the whole thing -about 1 inch in each direction.. not cheap but saves killing a $80 dallor light.. zooker

Well, upgraded to LED-wrapped the connection with electrical tape and then sealed it with something like liquid electrical tape. Then discovered one of my bearing buddies was missing, so had to replace that. Ah, the joys of boat ownership .
Only paid $30 each for the lights.

Yeah my old boat trailer was awful. I had to replace the wholehub with brakes in it and when I bought it the trailer wheel had a locking lugnut on it. I did not have the key to it so I had to drill it out from the back. Then the lights messed up once. Finally once the bearings burnt out and the hub separated from the trailer I just got rid of the whole trailer. It was more of a hassle than it was worth. I then threw some more money into that whole I call a boat and bought a brand new trailer.
