Default Frog color and well all top water colors

while gf was in a store called Ulta, i was next door at gander. yep proud i only spend 7.00 well all i could spare. anyway i got the spro orange halloween frog... i love orange and that was a wicked color. got me thinking most frogs i have are standered green and one blue-ish. all there bottems are white, most of my topwaters bottems are white. so does the top color really matter. is it just for the angler. Now i have 3 frogs i havnt looked at yet, so their bottems may match with top. anyway whats your opnion, or if i am wrong let me know

Often that that does not match the hatch works quite well in a frog,I use poison dart, yellow and black, and even a bublegum pink gets hits.

The one thing ive never understood is why companies like spro and livetarget put so much effort in all the details of the frog.

Arent the fish only ever going to see the bottom of it? Does it really matter?

I really think it's more of a light/dark issue more than color. Some days a dark colored frog will out produce a light colored frog and visa versa. However, as with so many other baits, confidence is a big thing. If you find a color pattern that you feel good about, your going to work that lure with more confidence. In the end, thats going to be the main thing. The only thing a frog is going to see on a floating frog is the belly portion, unless it gets jerked underneith the surface. So I usually start with a dark belly frog on overcast low light conditions and change to a lighter colored belly frog if the bite slows.

Unfortuantely if they left all the tops raw bondo grey their sales would plummet.....and they'd have to sharply reduce the price....and it wouldn't be near as fun shopping for them....and what would we talk about?

In my opinion, color maybe less important in frog baits than any other lure.
If you have a dark color and a light color, you have the bases covered.
As was said, confidence in a color means a great deal.
And remember, the manufacturers are marketing to the fisherman not the fish.

I'm am always a sucker for matching the hatch realism, but once again, this past weekend I was at a Sportsman show and had the Pro who traveled with the "hog tank"(I wish I could remember his name, because he was, and always has been a nice guy, and answers all my questions), he saw that I had a few frogs in my bag, and we got talking about it, and once again, I was told that you really only need two colors, Black, and White.

I've become fond of frogs with bright backs, because it helps me see them better. I doubt the fish care at all.

I like 2 different frogs, both with a 5/0 EWG hook:
Zoom Horny Toad: color "Watermelon Crawfish"
Stanley Ribbit Frog: color all white, then I take a red sharpie and color the nose red!

I've got a black Spro Frog and a white Spro Poppin' Frog. I haven't had much luck with either, and I've fished the black one quite a bit.

In this picture you can see the White Stanley Ribbit frog with the nose painted red. That day I just hammered the smallmouth with this frog in murky water: caught 8 fish in a 3 hour canoe trip including a 17 and 18 incher. My buddy got skunked throwing everything in his tackle box! ...I've also done well with this frog fishing for largemough.

Here's the same fish; it just looks better (i.e. bigger) with the kid holding it instead of me holding it! (I'm 6-2/260lbs)

Iowa, I just checked out the link to the Horny Toads. Oh boy a slew of new colors. I read somewhere that a bass can see up the sides of a lure that rests on the water. So I figure bottom and sides matter somewhat. The top is incase the frog lands upside down and you want to give the bass a different view.

lol OK i got ya kenneth, it makes sense. I just didnt know if I was completely wrong and the tops really did make a difference or what.

You are right it does make frog shopping more excited. Quite a few cool new frogs coming out.

I really want to check out those new Paycheck Transporter Frog, Ive heard great things about them and they are different.
