Default Thermometer

So, I went to the store and bought a thermometer...didn't realize that these are not effective in water when I want a read-out. Does anyone know where and how much I can get a thermometer that I can use to take temps from shore?

Thanks in advance!

BTW...caught my first bass of the year...about a pound on a failed cast with a football head jig...swam it back quickly and it hit at the bank haha. It's all free game though, right?

Provided that you have 5 minutes to allow for a reading, a pool thermometer works fine. You can pick one up for less than 10 at Wal-mart. I keep one in my bag for shore fishing or when I am on a lake that only allows for rental boats.

Thanks for the help Tom!

And thanks to you too Bama...I said "failed" because I didn't get it anywhere as far as what I wanted it to be...failed in my eyes with the execution but the outcome was nice.

I had one of these before I got my boat. It tells you the depth, if there is fish, and the TEMP.
May not be what you are looking for, but here it is...

I have a cheap indoor outdoor thermometer that I bought for about $10.00 that has a temp sensor on a wire for the outdoor part that I carry in my truck. I have had it for about 5 years and it never failed me yet! It's not designed for water temp, but it works fine. I split a bullet weight with a hacksaw and lightly crimped it above the sensore so it would sink!

A stream thermometer will give you a reading in 30 seconds, maybe less. They can run from about $7-13.

I have been meaning to get one of these or the "Stump Jump Epxress", my 12' with the 240# thrust trolling motor. Thanks for the reminder and the tips fellas.

Ditto the above. I keep one in my boat. You can lower it to various depths and tell the temp whereas a boat thermometer only tells you surface temp. Also use the stream thermometer to back up the one on your boat if you doubt it or it goes on the blink.

I use a non mercury thermometer, works fine! All I do it tie it to the line and cast it out wait a few nins, than I reel it back and see what them temp is, if I wanna find the temp in the middle of the water column , I just out on a bobber!

I have one of these: http://www.vexilar.com/pages/product..._deptherm.html
Seems to work great for temp. Depth is not always so accurate.
