I have used them a couple of times and I don't like them. I used sinking minnow! The ones I used were sort of hard and a little on the slimmy side. I don't think I will be using them again. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, but that is my opinion.

Ive used Gulp quite a bit and I've had a lot of success with several different types and colors. My favorite is the nightcrawler. One thing you have to keep in mind when using Gulp baits is that you must always keep the package closed when you aren't using them. If you leave the bait out, even just leaving a bait out on the boat deck for a little, it will dry up and wont be able to be used again. Don't give up on them just yet.

I didn't leave the package open, I just didn't like how hard they were and the way theyt felt right out of the package when I fist opened it.

For the money there are crap IMO. Once thrown in the water they start to disintegate(actually they are already disintegrating when you buy them). Once kept out of the water for a time they turn to leather shoelaces. They will catch fish, but so will 1,000,000,000,000,000 other lures. Why spend the money on something that reacts like that, when you can get other baits, that last longer, and IMO work better. Anyway's that's the end of my use of the soap box for now NEXT.

Haven't tried them. I read Lizard's report when he first tried them, so I'm not planning on trying them, either.

How about the Gulp livebait (ex. maggots, wigglers, grubs)? Do they live up to the claim that they outfish livebait?

I'll second Tom on the junk thing. Berkley products are all about hype and advertizing. The original power bait was the best bait they made and they scrapped it long ago.

Last year there was a free offer from Gulp for a trial pack of assorted baits. When I received it, I opened it, then resealed it and put it back in my tackle bag. One day when I decided to try them, they were totally useless, dried to nothing. Yes, the bag was still sealed.
I'm glad they were free.

My choice for plastics is Zoom, followed by Yum.

Gulp works well in certain circumstances.......I went nuts on it when it first came out and then found out it isn't that great. The problem is that it dries out really fast when out of the water....just like nightcrawlers......I does catch fish though.

The "live Gulp bait" does work very, very well.....I don't think it outfishes live bait but it certainly is great to have in the boat if the bite gets tough, especially the maggots for crappies and perch and bluegills.

Catch em up
Brian

P.S. The chicken livers work great for Catfish.

Everytime I go to wal-mart I try and persuade myself to buy some of the maggots for when I am drifting for gills, but when it comes down to purchasing items I always find other things I want more! One day I'll do it...........I guess ;D

Best soft plastics = Zoom! Zoom soft plastics are inexpensive and they catch lots of big Bass.

I like different types from different companies, many of the soft plastics that I buy are from bitters which are based on zoom lures.Yum is also good, especially the crawbug and the yum dinger. Culprit has got good worms. Strike kings got good tubes and creature baits. DIfferent things from differemt companies.

I use different brands. I think YUM has the best feel/scent of any of the products I've used. Zoom has the biggest selection, and a quality product. FIN-S is my brand of fluke. So you need to decide what it is you like, and go from there. And don't be afraid of trying new things. Strap likes Gulp and I watched him catch a catfish on one ;D But it's all about what you have confidence in. And your confidence comes from catching fish. So if you catch fish, then you'll like that brand you're using right then

I hand pour 90% of my own soft plastics but use Yamamoto baits when I need a manufacturers bait.

The only downside to 3x is that they only give you 4 zulus per pack and cost more but they also last longer than the other baits. When I bought them I could not resist streching it about 4 feet like in the commercials.

I have tried the Gulp baits by Berkeley and they do not last long at all, a big waste of $$ .
