My son uses his fly rods on every trip. He also takes his other setups. He picked up some dvd's and praticed in the back yard.
His most used outfit is a 10 ft, size 9 Salmon rod made by Triple Fork or mayby Twin Forks. Can't remember the name right now. Got it at Cabela's last season. Also has a St. Croix 8ft size 6 or 7. He ties most of his own flyes but gets a lot of them from BPS when we are out that way. Also gets them from Ramsey outdoor for those of you living in NJ.
When he gets home from school I will get more information for anyone that wants it. Feel free to im or email me

I have been interested for years in this form of fishin, I saw three guys once in waders kick ash on my favorite local pond back in the mid ninties. The three of them caught maybe 50 bass total in about 90 minutes. I had been at the pond for over 3 hours and only had 4 bass.
It looks like something I will have to try someday, and I would be interested in reading post's about it too. Thanks for bringin it up.

I've heard, like bass fishing gear, you got access to cheap stuff as well as top of the line stuff. The cheaper stuff can be had for less than 75.00, with the "good" stuff going for over 1000.00 for both rod and reel, not including line either.... Check this out, a link from loomis on one of their rods.

40 bucks at walmart, you don't really need a real nice setup for starting out.

Okay heres what im thinking. Either an 8 or 7 weight rod. The 8 for the size of the fish im catching or the 7 for less fatigue in the blind casts. Floating line and a reel of equal size. Don't know what brand yet though!

don't know exactly but that's what it translate too. Just a way to measure how heavy the rod is!

whew lots replies srry i been away for a few days
i use a 8 wight rod with 6 wt float line and 4 foot of 14lb leader for evey thing
all of this is walmart special equipment i do have a higher dollar rod i paid 145 dolars for but i hardly ever use it iv caught a few small redfish on it but i use it mostly for fresh water
for bream a #10 fly don here in the south neon green works the best
it is actualy pretty easy you jus have to practise and get feel for it just like any other rod and reel
i went this yesterday and caught 4 bass and 23 bream in jus lil over an hour
today i caught16 bream and 2 bass but it was like 48 degrees with a 20 mph wind
it is very hard to fly fish in the wind and i am wore out
the other day i was sittin out onn point up to my knees in my pond and no wind bout 75-80 degrees perfect weather i caught fish after fish after fish for 4 hours till i was plumb wore out i feeled up an ice chest fulla bream had to take some out to put ice in tore them up
at walmart you can get started for 40 bucks shakespere fly rod kit comes with fly line and every thing even has a few flys with it but no popers
popers is what i use 90% of the time but a good wet fly works well in colder weather when the fish aint on top
i hope i helped some of yall im open for more questions im no professional but i will try to help if at all possible

My brother fly fishes been doing it for 25 years and applys it to black bass also. he has caught some very nice bass eg. between 3 lbs. and 8 lbs. where we go. he also alternates with an ultra light spinning set-up; when the fly rod bite is "weak".
