Default Crazy Idea

I'm reading an article from an angler that was warning against 'braid' retaining odors...like gasoline or Wd or what ever.
So got me thinking....what if I take a spool of braid and soak it in a 'gulp bucket' till spring. Then remove, let dry and spool.

Crazy or great idea?

I think if you're worrying about the way your braid smells, you're way overthinking things.

Jrob... I would improve your statement above by replacing the smiley face with an exclamation point!

I agree that your probably overthinking things, but as anglers that's pretty much all we do. I wouldn't soak braid in anything for any length of time and then expect it to perform, plus I would think you are asking for problems when that stuff that you soaked your line in makes its way into the guts of your reels.

Put it to the test I say…. Take two pieces of braid soak one in gasoline…..one in gulp. Take em out and see how they retain the odors. Also do the same with some mono to see if it goes both ways. All my reels have braid.....kinda curious myself. Although i spray bang on everything!

Gas as well as other chemicals could be harm full to the line set the hook on your lifetime dream and it keeps on going.

Put some in a spray bottle and apply every other cast or so.

OK guys confession time!

I'm probably the only fisherman you will ever hear ADMIT to this.

A couple of years ago I bought and USED Bass Pro's SCENTED line lube.
And I'm still doing follow up research.

Ya, I don't over think much.
Not for long periods of time anyways.

I'd be afraid what the scent would do to the reel as it started to wash off when fishing. If you've ever fished on water with a thin, film like algae bloom, you'll know how much water gets sprayed off braided line when casting.

We fished in a small bloom like this our reels were green, the reel seats and parts of the rod handles were green. Everything needed washing. I'd just be careful where I was spraying a scent, especially such a strong (nasty smelling) one like Gulp.

I think it'd be better to soak the last few feet of line, kind of like a scented leader.

Joe, I think you are overthinking it. If you are worried about it I would pull off 2-3 long casts worth of line and then respool. When you get to where you can feel the knot respool again. That makes your braid go a lot further.
