Default the carrot rod

while i was at the fishing expo in raleigh saturday. i got the chance to try the e21 carrot rod out. man is it real light looks like a solid rod. but the only thing i did not like about it is the grip.

it felt unbelivably like a berkley lighting rod..-real cheap feel- the cork handle did not come up to what i would prefure to pay on a rod that costly. in a quality rod that cost over $120 you don't want to feel big pits in the cork handle.specificly a NEW rod. this rod was fresh out of the plastic wrap and still had saw dust on it..

my opinion nice rod get a better handle than we will talk..
i did get several new sticks and had acomparable rod in hand at that time.. the techna av 7' casting stick weighed twice as much but felt much better in the hand...

You think it would fish alright ? what do you think the balance would be like with a reel on it ?Would you be annoyed with the weight of the reel feeling, or would you not notice it ?How did the guides look ?I am considering one of these as my next rod purchase. P N J

Tag on the rod said that the reel seat was graphite filled nylon. Didn't care for the EVA grips. Felt tip heavy without a reel. So much so that it didn't feel as though a reel would make too much difference.

Dave i think it's because the wieght was not installed in the back cap. I do like innerchangale weight system. Depending on reel weight you just add the right weight to get it balanced. EVA grips still come on 20.00 rods.

the one i was looking at had a cork handle-bout the same as the eva handle shown.they had and entire truck-16 foot u-haul- full of them..the rod i was playin with was the $250 job. call me critical but dam, it is MY $250 to spend. belive me when i say the bait monkey took me for a $1200 ride at that expo.-not counting hotel-i was much happier with a g-stick i got..

all baitcast rods are tip heavy.the proper balance point is the center of the reel seat on a rod.this way the rod is neutral when you hold it.with the center of the reel seat being the balance point the reel has absolutely no effect on rod balance.a properly balanced rod will take any reel and still be balanced.this is because weight above or below the balance point has no effect.you can balance a rod without the reel on it and then install the reel and balance will not change.if it does the rod is not balanced properly.

I am going to stick to the "you don't have to spend a ton of $$$ to get a good rod" that you made a while back. I like the Castaways.

Dodgeguy, everything you said may very well be true but I like the BPS Extreme Rods w/ the weight system. I love to put some weight in the back because it makes the tip feel lighter and there seems to less fatigue. May sound weird but I like it . . .

Jeepers Cats, They're selling carrot sticks on Ebay. Hey Dodge, Would you be wanting to part with the original BPS screw in butt cap, since you bought the weight system buttcaps ? I lost one on my Clunn crankin stick, I haven't been successful in finding the right person to buy one from BPS.It seems as though they aren't for sale, from the people I have talked to.Worse comes to worse, I will buy a weighted system, because not having one bugs the hell out of me. Default Screw In Butt Caps

" Screw in Butt Caps"

There's something that is just so, oh so wrong with that phrase!

Bob, Your mind is definately way south of the intended purpose of the words screw in butt cap. Maybe the words "Exit only, do not enter" should apply to more than traffic signs ? P N J
