cajun Red line?

So I was riding to a friends house from going fishing today, and while I was there, I noticed that I was really low on line! So I asked Robert(This particular friend of mine.) if he had any line I could spool up with. By the time we left I had spooled up with some 20-pound cajun red line.

Now understand the science behind cajun redline, the red color supposedly disappears underwater because the red colored end of the light spectrum can't penetrate the water for more than a few feet. But doesn't That mean that it becomes like regular non-colored line once the red color dissappears?

What is your opinion of cajun redline and does it work any better than non-colored line for you? Have you any proof that it is better than non-coloerd line? Thanx!

You've pretty much got the science behind the red line crap down. But what happens to it exactly is still highly debated. I personally agree that the color red if filtered out, not the line. Therefore, I don't think you're any better off than with a clear line. And remember, red only filters out at a cetrain depth, and I believe it is about 7-9' despite the claims of the companies that make red line. So if you like the line for how it handles, then I don't think it'll hurt, but I don't think it being red gives you any advantages.

I love Cajun line. I use it on almost every reel I have. It seems to be lighter, thinner, more abrasion resistant and it is a whole lot cheaper than other line.

I don't fish like a pro and I don't have the money to pay for fancy line and gear. Cajun line does the job for me.

I used Cajun red for a while and was not to happy with the results i got from the line but also I have friends that swear by it and have never had a problem with it , might be that I just got a bad spool . Any how if ya want the line to be less noticeable get fluorocarbon and stop trying to figure the whole debate on red line out .

A few years ago I bought into the Cajun Red - spooled a dozen rods with 8# - 14# line - both baitcasters and a couple spinning reels. Did that a couple days before leaving for a few days at Lake Anna. Stuff looked kinda nice on the reels - red on silver, yep sharp looking. So to the line's performance - absolutly the worst line I've ever used. After only a few days sitting on the reels, all of it was coiled due to terrible line memory. The line was pretty stiff, almost wirery. Fished 4 hours in the morning, went in for lunch. Stopped at the marina and bought a half dozen spools of line, and respooled every reel before returning to fishing. Absolutley the worst line I've ever tried. I hear others saying how much they like it and I just can't imagine anyone having a good opinion of it. My experience was with Cajun Red (of about 4 years ago), I don't have any recent knowledge of the Cajun Red or their Lightning which may or may not be a better line. As it has Cajun Red attached to the name, I won't touch it.

I've used it before and it's ok, defiantly something I would by if I didn't have the money for sufix.

I've got some in 17# on my spinnerbait rod and topwater rod. I don't hate it, but it's not my favorite. I don't like it as much as the Berkley Big Game I have on my other rods. The Big Game has less memory, not as stiff, and doesn't coil up as much.

As far as the red disappearing, I think that's the marketing department blowing smoke. But if you think it helps, it's a confidence thing, so go for it.

I have never bought a spool of the stuff, but my neighbor did and spooled several reels with the 10 # stuff. He was breaking off everything he tied on with small fish. I looked at this rod eyes and checked for nicks in the line and could only ascertain that it was just weak.

I hate it, it has a ton of memory and i dont think the color red in line makes a difference. Why would the color Redbug work is they cant see it? U cant tell me that they just eat the flake, and I have talked to a couple people that said flakes in the plastic,under like 5ft of water(depending on water color) dissappear. so that would make the worm invisible to the fish if each statement is true.And if they could see the outline of the worm,that would mean that they could see the outline of your red fishing line. What do you guys think?

I tried it a couple of years ago and was sadly disappointed. The memory made impossible to cast. I took it off my reel very quickly.

all of you guys who are having memory problems with it are using red lightning.red lightning is a line designed for ocean trolling and not casting!!!try red cast.it is one of the most manageable lines made.

I wasn't happy with the Cajun Red Cast I tried last year. I could cast a mile but the knot strength was terrible and it had way too much memory. I've got a spool and a half sitting 3' from me on my desk. Mainly because I thought I might be able to give it away

there is no way on god's green earth that red cast can be described as having to much memory.it is one of the limpest most manageable lines made.it also holds a palomar knot with no problems.

I use Red Cast. I love Red Cast. Too much memory? Doesn't seem to be a problem with me. I've pulled miles of line off my reel without it coiling at all. Knot strength feels fine to me...

ok, i use cajun red too on some of my reels. IF you use the KVD line conditioner it doesn't have near the memory some of you are referring to. but 20# test? man that sounds like it is too much in my opion. i used to put on the 14 and 17, had problems with distance and memory. down sized to no more than 12 test....no more problems. and it casts a mile. i like it for some things, others i don't.

BTW...the best casting mono I've used is Trilene XL Smooth Casting. Just an FYI
