I'd say the writer mis heard the angler on the subject of hookset with the frog.
You'd at least think a copy would be reviewed from the pro but they are probably to busy on the road to read internet/ magazine news.

Most of us know that an immediate hookset on topwater frogs will yield less fish in the boat then if you wait a second or two.

i agree, anybody that has fished a frog knows you have to wait before the hookset. heck, this rule even applies to your favorite spook or any other topwater bait.

I've always had better luck taking a couple seconds before hook-set. And it took me too long to learn to set aside the knee jerk reaction of setting the hook immediately to change it now.

i found the same as above.. many times the finicky bass will just slap at it and not take the frog on the first strike. and you will have to wait for repeated strikes before they take the bait.. a knee jerk reaction hook set in this situation will send a 1 ounce plastic frog back at you with amazing speed which will result into an amazing amount of pain if it contacts you.been there done that..

the writer prolly went fishing with them, saw a true topwater explosion, wet his pants, and next thing he knew dean or fred were hooked up. he was prolly in shock from the explosion or wetting his pants that he didn't notice them put the rod tip down before crossing their eyes. when you're the fisherman, those 2 seconds from the top water blow up to the hookset seem like an eternity to seasoned topwater anglers, while the casual observer's eyes are glued to the water and likely never noticed the rod tip drop before the hookset.

Sounds like they'd make great politicians!

Okay, kidding aside, here are the possible scenarios:

1) Reporter Error: Perhaps they were misquoted, but I think that is highly unlikely. I imagine that any reporter would have had their recorders on and would definitely had the ability to get the quotes right.

2) Perhaps in that short time span, they changed their minds.

3) They're looking forward to a future career in politics.

I hope that they see this and respond to clarify. I have never even thrown a frog yet ever but I still want to know.

Definatly a mis quote, or typing error.

I can almost guarantee that they recomend a few seconds on a hookset, everytime I have ever heard anyone (including them) speak of frog fishing that is the first thing they mention, wait a few, lower the rod, cross their eyes.

I think it is even the 11th commandment,
"thou shall wait at least 2 seconds before setting the hook while frog fishing".
