little compression

hey guys i have a 1979 mercury 140 hp straight 6, i have been losing compression in the 3rd cylinder and it fell to 30 psi now when u add oil it goes upto around 70, how do i fix it if it is a quick fix or am i looking for a rebuild or just a new motor any help please

sounds like the oil ring is gone..

I hate to tell ya the bad news bud but ole ZOOK is exactly right. While I got your ears ifn you would like to upgrade to a 1987 motor of 115hp same motor just newer I have one that I am just about giving away. If you decide to rebuild yours I have several places that can really help you out as far as prices. PM if you need any more info.

hey zook are they worth rebuilding or should i look for a diff motor. and if im looking do u know where i can get a 115 to a 150 need to get 1 soon because i have a big tournament come up in a month. thanks again

well it is a merc.. and if ya read any of my post in this section you know my opinon of them.

diffantly would go with a 150 moter if you replace..

heck ifn you are wanting to rebuild....1fastlaser is the man to do it fer ya pal. he loves the mercs and KNOWS how to do it. right laser? zooker i think would agree with me as well.
