Default Baking jig heads

Hey guys got a quick question for you. I have some old BPS and a few other brands of jigs lying around that I'd like to get used, but the paint on most of them seems to chip really easily. Would it do any good to remove the skirt and pop them in a toaster over for a bit to bake the paint on there better? Would that harden up the finish any, or is that something that needs to be done right after they get painted?

No, heating them up after they've been dry won't help any. Once the paint has set, that's it....you'd have to strip them down to the lead, repaint, then bake.

If they were painted it probably wont do a thing for you, but if they are powder coated, there is a chance that it may improve the quality.

Fingernail polish (clear) is easy and cheap. It will help some but they will still chip.

You can bake them after they are powder painted, and it will help the finish last longer. 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes works great. Just be aware that you cannot bake a jig with the weedguard, or it will melt it. I personally don't bother because most of what we fish is rocks, and no matter what I do within an hour of dragging the jighead through rocks, the finish is going to be marked up in some kind of way. Plus, fishing rocks in deep water, you can't help but lose some jigs once in a while.
