That's what I'm looking at getting in the next year or so, jcw. They were practically giving them away a couple months ago when I went to check prices. Plus, like you said, even the V-8 gets decent mileage.

My 03 Silverado 4.8L V8 w/tow pkg. gets 20mpg.

It's got plenty of power for pulling my boat and trailer, 99 Skeeter 185 ZXc.

I'm glad I went with the full size truck.

yeah, thats when i got mine, i got a extended cab, which has much more room than the old extended cab, i can fit 3 full size adults back there comfortably, it had the engine upgrade package with the 5.3 liter V8, which gets good gas mileage, it came with the off road package and towing package...for about 20,000

jig fisherman, look pal. not bragging or nuthin. but when i was your age. i went to work in a peach/plum orchard and bought my FIRST vehicle. a 1956 ford f-100 pickup truck. paid $100.00 for it. mom was soo mad cause ol pop let me buy it. so don't get upset pal. find yourself a summer job and save your money. that is unless the ol bait monkey makes ya spend it on him,hahaha. and believe me it DOES HAPPEN,LMAO.
