I have a rod and reel picked out for a combo for pitching/frogging/jig rod, and here are my questions...

1. Is a 7' MH Rod a Strong Enough Rod for these techniques? (I do not fish extremely heavy cover)

2. What lines should I consider... I will be fishing clear waters sometimes, and was wondering if braid or flouro would be a better option.

3. My reel of choice is a Rick Clunn... and what ratio should i go with (5.4:1, 6.4:1, or 7.1:1)

Any other tips or comments on rods, reels, line, etc...

i would go with braid and a 7' heavy action rod i would go with the 7.1 reel.. with braid i would go 30 pound test minimum..

Reel: Shimano Castaic
Line: 65 pound test izorline braid
Rod: Kistler Helium 7'6" heavy

2. Braid is gonna work out better, probably go 30 at minimum.
3. Go with the 7.1, it'll come in handy when you gotta reel fast.

And on a side note, FISH HEAVY COVER!!!!!

That's where the big ones like to be a lot of times, hangin out waitin for an ambush. If you've got a broomstick, a cheap jig and 40 pound braid, go head and throw it in the nasty stuff.....

rrw, I'd go with a 7' H rod like Zook said. there really isn't that much heavy cover around this area, but I like a heavier rod because, well I like it better for those techniques. Anyways, 15lb fluoro or 20-30lb braid should work around here, but if you're going to be throwing frogs, go with the braid. For our area, I'd go no more than 30lb braid.

A good combo would be a 7' Heavy action rod with a 7.1:1 reel using braid.
