It doesn't matter who helped them get there, what matters is who helped them the most to win the game.
But it, just like every other award (including pro-bowl), is a popularity contest, just like every other American sport. Therefore Peyton got it, just like everybody knew he would if the Colts won. The quarterback or runningback usually gets all of the credit. No matter the offensive line that blocks for them. No matter the tight ends or receivers that have to catch the throws. Who is the better quarterback? Peyton Manning, who throws to Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Dallas Clark, or someone like Drew Brees, who throws to....... exactly. Yet, Brees somehow put up just as many yards. I'm not saying that Manning isn't a good quarterback. But the Colts were a great TEAM this year unlike other years, which is why they won the Superbowl. Without great receiving, great blocking, great running, and some decent defense in the playoffs, Peyton Manning couldn't have done it alone. When the Steelers won the year before, you can hardly say Big Ben was the reason. More like The Bus, Willie Parker, Hines Ward, Troy Polamalu, Randle El, and GREAT TEAMWORK! Conclusion: quarterbacks are overrated. |
