				 | The Prodigy Reel

Cabelas has a pretty good sale price on their Cabelas Prodigy reels. Has anyone here ever used one of these reels, and if so, what is your opinion of them? I read some user reviews and it gets pretty good reviews overall. I personally have never used a Cabelas brand reel.

I haven't , but looking at them, being on sale right now looks like a great buy.The Magforce magnetic system is from Daiwa. I would say that these are a spinoff from the Advantage reel line.I would go out on a limb abd say that you would be very happy for the price of this reel. P N J |

keithdog, i purchased my Cabela's Prodigy Baitcaster back in June, for $69.99. It is nicer than anybody gives it credit for. Casts like a dream, smooth reeling in, and an awesome drag system. I matched it up with a 6' 6" MH Quantum Baitcasting Rod, and spooled it with 15 lb. berkley big game. It has made a great rod/reel for worms, jigs, and spinnerbaits. The reel also holds alot of line... I DEFINETLY RECCOMMEND THIS REEL!!! It will not let you down... Ryan

Keith, I bought one last time I was in Cabelas. They are made by Daiwa and are good reels. It is a great reel for the $.

Thanks weaver, much appreciated. The more I read about it, the more excited I get about trying one out. I already have the rod purchased for it to go on. A BPS Pro Qualifier 6 1/2 MH action.

keithdog, I just bought a Prodigy yesterday along with a 7' MH Cabelas XML rod. Couldn't pass it up as the rod had a busted guide but otherwise was in perfect shape, and it was on sale for $40 bucks (new they are $140). Got the whole setup for about $110 and just need to replace one guide to make it good as new. I was so impressed with my savings that I had to buy a GLoomis rod too just to reward myself......

The bait monkey is on the loose. I think Raul has been providing steroids to the monster. P N J |

I fought the baitmonkey off yesterday as much as I could. It could have been much, much worse than it was...... |

What G Loomis rod did you end up with ? I wish I needed a Prodigy reel, but the fact is I have way too many reels as it is.I keep looking at a new Shimano Metanium XT in the box, I don't need it, but I sure would like to have it.I love the one I already have.It sits on a G Loomis IMX 783 rod. I couldn't believe the sensitivity and the lightweight of that rod, along with a well balanced feel. As far as the prodigy reel, after holding almost every reel in the store, I was impressed with the feel of it. I won't know for sure until I get out and use it, but it feels well built and I couldn't turn down that sale price.

No problem Keithdog. We might have to try and hook up and do some fishing once it warms back up in Indiana.
