New Rods

i have a quantum energy with a shimano clarus rod. i want to get a spinning rod and reel for finesse and worm fishing. what pound test for both reels and what brand

try a bait cast reel and rod set up. 7' rod ( i like the lighting rods) and for reels i use mostly abu garcia, 12-14 pound test mono, or 30 pound power pro braid.

I agree with Bama on the worm rod set up. Get either a 7' or 6'6" bait cast rod and your favorite reel that will handle up to 14 pound test. My personal favorite is a medium heavy St. Croix. I also like the St. Croix spinning rod in a 6'6" both have great sensitivity as well as enough backbone when you need it. I actually use braid on my spinning set up when I am skipping under the docks, great hook set but you better hope it is a fish and not a cable or part of the dock. That really hurts the wrist.
As for reels, I am a big Johnny Morris fan, but also like Pfluger (sp).

6-10lb test for the spinning if you want finesse. Fluorocarbon might be best and the brand is up to you. Some people have difficulty with Fluoro on a spinning rod. What are you using the Quantum/Clarus combo for? What action and power is the rod?

well i only have one rod right now so i use it for mostly everything. it has twelve pound test on it

Oh man, I remember those days all to well. Now I have a bunch of stuff I still don't use and some more I just don't know how. Here comes the bait monkey and he's coming for you . LOL.

I use A 6'6" med spinning rod for weightless plastics and a 7'0" med/hev baitcast for anything with added weight . #12 mono on the spinning and 17-20lb Fluorocarbon on the baitcast set up .
I do have another baitcast reel that I keep spooled with #30 power pro for the heavy stuff .

One spinning rod - finesse primary usage. I'd suggest a 7' M/F rod with a reel of your choice probably in a size 35. I prefer Yo-Zuri (soft), 8# test, on spinning reels. 7' rod will allow you longer cast with lighter weight, and will also serve very well for dropshot or shakey head presentations. A 7' rod ould give you a little more versatility from the one rod over one of 6'-6" in my opinion.
