New would be best. Installation requires a couple holes (1" or 1.25") be bored in the side rails and most guys don't want to remove the inserts the bar goes into and leave holes in the side rails. I am not certain if Lock-R-Bar will sell only the anchors, that may be a possibility, but paying for a used bar and new inserts would probably have you at the cost of a complete new kit. Personally I prefer the now defunct Tackle-Safe, much stronger (also expensive), t-bar installation. The bar will not stop a determined theif, but it does prevent a quick snatch, when traveling, stopped for a meal or bathroom break

I rely on the Tackle-safe for overnight security (along with a boat cover and baby monitor) when stopped at a motel or lodge. I also try and park next to an uncovered and unsecured boat overnight - makes mine MUCH MORE unattactive to theives, LOL. |

My partner's boat got hit last night, he lost all of his tackle, pliers, even life vest. He did have all of his rods inside but forgot everything else. We were tying jigs until 3 and when he got home the cover was off and he found everything missing. I'm now debating weather to get a bar like this or a Viper alarm with the proximity field sensor. Probably go with the alarm since I don't want to drill holes and my sides are low.

I don't know which method is best, but I suggest something! |

Crap that sux about your partners stuff Bender.....I've never really thought about tackle theft before this thread....I don't own a boat, but i've been worried that my stuff would get stolen outta the back of my blazer if someone noticed whats in it.....I don't have an alarm but I do lock it....for what thats worth.

I have a lock r bar and it works great you can buy a extra piece so that if your boat has 2 center storage arear none of them can be opened worth the money..
