Favorite Spring Time Tactics?

I know, I know, Middle of Jan. and I'm asking THIS? Well, while it's the dead of winter for most you guys, spring is right around the corner for me!

Temperature wise that is!

Temps on average for February are around 70! So Fishing's gonna be great! Spinnerbaits will dominate then.

So, your favorite Spring time Tactics?

Water Temps in the low 70's

I don't know how cold the water gets down there in the winter, but I've done good on Flukes right after ice out up (and I mean RIGHT after).

Jerkbaits like Rapala Husky Jerks are good (I'll also be trying LC Pointers this year). And as the water warms more, the Rapala X-rap is a good bait.

Oh, and I can't forget one of my spring go-to's: the dropshot. small baits, not a lot of movement, great for cold water bass.

Pop-r's, zara spoos, buzzbaits, spro frogs and rats. ANYTHING on top of the water. Also lipless cranks, spinnerbaits..i can go on and on boss. See, down there you truly don't have a winter so it is wide open as to what you can use pal.

Thanks for the quick replys guys! I'll defiantly try the flukes, they'll probably do really good around when the hydrilla start getting thicker since they're more weedless than spinnerbaits!

And Bama, I'll try Top water hardbaits early in the morning..... if I can get out that early!

How early are we talking. lol, Usually right after ice out slow falling jigs with pork is good as well as shakey head and drop shot. When the water starts to warm into the mid 40's-50 a spinnerbait or chatterbait can start to get good and when the sun really starts beating down and the water gets close to 60. A chatterbait is the way to go.

I wasn't sure what you meant by spring. I consider spring anywhere between ice out and pre spawn. So not knowing exactly what you meant I tried to cover what I thought of spring.

I always have luck using small bomber cranks and buzzbaits before spawn.

I had some Bomber fat free shads (different sizes) and never really caught much on them. Zook told me he only fished his in the spring when the water's cold. I don't know why, but I've done good on them in the spring, and decent during cold fronts.

Yea I plan on using alot of my Bomber fat free shad & frys..I plan on alot of topwater,shallow cranks,spinnerbait for the prespawn/spawn

I use many tactics, but one that seems particularly effective for me is a 1/8 oz hair jig rigged on a float 'n Fly for suspended bass or jigged by itself on the bottom if they are there - use a longer rod and put it right in front of their noses. Fish on the lay-downs, submerged wood, and brushy cover right after ice-out.

I like to use a 3.5 inch tube. The brand really doesn't matter, I rig it with an internal jig head, and swim it or hop it along the bottom based on the aggressiveness of the bass.

My personal favorite would have to be using topwater. Just seeing the fish eat the bait, there is just something about it. It is up there at least in the top three of things that feel great.

I like to use a jig with trailer. Just twitching it on the bottom. bouncing it every now and then. Had lots of success doing this

As soon as the ice is gone, you'll find 4 lures hanging from rods in my boat always. In no particular order they are the chatterbait, jerk baits both suspending and floating, spinnerbait and jig n pig. Suprisingly I catch a lot of bass on a floating jerkbait even when the water temps are in the upper 40's. Spinnerbaits will be fished very slowly so I prefer double colorado versions. Chatterbaits work VERY well untill the water warms up, and then the chatterbait bite seems to drop off. Thats when I'll start throwing crankbaits instead. And the jig will be used to pitch into wood cover.
