				 | practicing your casting

How many of you really practice your casting? I got a perfect place to practice, one of the landings off of my my deck is about has high has a bass boat off the water, but I still don't practice. My sister also has about 1 acre pond about 2 miles from me, perfect for practicing flipping and pitching but do I practice--NOOOO. I need to practice, how about you guys?

Ya, when I go fishing I "fish" in the yard, it's pretty good because we've got this section of our yard has a bunch of trees grouped together so I have to get right between them and real close, otherwise if I hit it... zzzzzzzziiiiinnnnnggg! Backlash. So, ya, I practice!

I definitely need to practice, since I've never used a baitcaster before

I practice all the time. I practice my long cast without making a splash by putting a trash can lid in the yard and slowing the bait down so that when it hits the lid it does not bounce out. I also practice my dock fishing around the back porch. My wife works at night and I have to keep the kids so while they play I practice.

I practice at least 1 hour a day. Rotating between different types of cast every 8-10 minutes. Hmm.....I just wanted to see how it looked if I typed it out. I don't practice at all. However, my son is going to start using a baitcaster this year so I will practice with him in the yard this spring! |

The guy next door is always telling me I will never catch anything in the yard! I spent last spring learning how to use a B/C reel. I wish I had all the line I wasted back.

Here's what I do when my cats try to play with what I'm practice casting: First get the biggest treble hook you can find... Ok, I'm kidding of course. Seriously though, I take an old tube, and find an old tube jig, and cut the hook off right below the lead. Then push it up into the tube and tie it on like you normally would. Now you've got a hook free, cat-safe lure. BB

I really do need to practice my flipping, but don't think lisa would like it in the house. Too cold to do it outside though.

To cold. But once the weather warms maybe once or twice a week. Got to work out the arthritis first though. Have to work on long casting as I want to throw deep cranks this year. Always afraid of over runs when trying long casts.

I am pitching and flipping constantly in my pool. This is more to check out the baits than to practice. With a fish pond on the base I am very fortunate because I am fishing between 4-6 days a week. I consider the pond a pracice session.

I get out in my front yard every now and then. I have 10-12 trees I pitch to and try to hit them at the base. I let the kids run around and try to hit them with a weighted bobber to practice for excessive trolling motor runners and high winds.

I really need to. I have too much of an inward motion casting, always have, which means I have to hit a dock or a line of trees from a certain direction. I need to develop the ability to cast accurately with an outside motion, or learn to cast with the right.

I really need to start practicing my pitching. I can flip pretty good, though I seldom need to do it. Flipping seems so basic...almost like cane poling. I want to get good at pitching like the one guy I saw on Youtube...he doesn't hold the lure in his left hand or anything...he just takes the swing of the bait as he reels it in and slings it back. I need to find that video again.
