				 | Most USELESS thing on your boat

Hands down, no competition, and something that I find a TOTAL waste of space, money and provides no redeeming angler value - the analog speedometer. I've had 4 boats and the one thing that didn't perform it's function very long was the speedometer, even the one on my only brand spankin' new boat didn't work after the first year. They are not accurate, and they cease working usually due to a clogged tube. Yes you can clean them out, but it is a PITA and the speedometer really is a dinosaur that's time has come to be allowed to quietly slip into extinction. Today, with GPS very affordable and found as a non-deletable half of most sonar units, it's time for boat manufacturers to eliminate that useless POS and devote the dash space to other gauges, larger easier to read gauges, or better yet one digital display to replace the analog style gauges necessary for the operation of the outboard. It's time for demonstrations on the water, marches on Flippin, AR. and Murfeesboro, TN. Abolish the speedometer - NOW. Sorry, got carried away, I think it's time for my Prozac........................ |

Agreed, one can buy a gps one but why spend more as it reads out true on your expensive gps on the dash combo ,only other thing I can think of as I have my analog disconnected is or would be a Passenger, have eject button for that.

Mule, that's what Boogie was saying....no need for a separate analog OR GPS speedo, since it's built into every sonar/GPS combo. The most useless thing on my boat? It's a tie between my measuring board and my handheld digital scale...

While I won't argue about them typically being inaccurate, they are not without their use. Your GPS does not factor in water current. To the average bass fisherman, this might seem unimportant, but to a guy who is trolling a river or tidal system, speed relative to the water is far more important than your "absolute" speed.

Up to around 40 mph are fairly accurate, after that difference gets wide,my depth finder speed readings when on the troller seem to factor in the current,as long as im forward it even shows a drift speed, off of transducer not a wheel type again inaccurate. And missippiboy I agreed not as accurate for a true reading at speed. As nofear pointed out all things have their pros and cons, since I have other things to read accurate and current of limited use to me. Thinking of installing a flasher in its place and clean up my console. |

well....we checked mine out and for a 97 model....it seems to work pretty good. now like ol mudslide, my fish ruler and THREEE scales in my rig are wasting batteries.....never get a fish to make it work. so.....battery dies.......the ruler already is faded and worn form me walking back and forth over it trying to find a bait.......ANY BAIT that'll catch something other than a dink, and lately not even a dink.

Since somebody already took measuring board and scales, I'll say my culling system. Heck, some days the livewell is useless! All kidding aside, I do totally agree about the speedo. Even if you don't have GPS on your sonar you can use your smartphone to see speed. Yes, they have an app for that too. |

The Groover... The groover is a bucket used by ladies to pee into. It called so by the way it leaves grooves in the rear end of the user. Real women just hang over the side. Capt Mike

NO WOMEN ON MY BOAT, solves problem. Also eliminates the porblem: You think this if fun? Where are the fish? OOOOOOOHHHH, that stinks - yeah, that was me. Why don't we fish over there - the flowers on the bank are so pretty. I'm sorry I let go of the rod, but you have plenty more. OUCH, yeah that was me too. |
