What'd the point in a buzzbait being that long???

I think its for the days they are a little slow and hit a little bit further back. Don't know the answer but thats my thought.

to catch a fisherman. I think you'd have to really burn a buzzbait that long just to keep it running right. I don't understand the premise of the long arm on another level because the "commotion" that the blade makes is supposed to imitate an animal or fish splashing, but what animal or fish that a bass would eat would do that from 6 inches behind the splash? I just think its a gimmick lure that should be avoided. Conventional buzzbaits are time proven and tested, why change?

2 reasons, the body has a little more side to side action, and it appears as if it is a baitfish chasing another injured baitfish (buzzer), making the baitfish more suceptable as it is only focused on the injured baitfish. That's the thoery behind it, but mostly to hook fisherman.

Yeah i was watching Bill Dance use it on TV (it is his lure I think) and he said that a fish will hear the splash but by the time they swim over the bait might be gome so this allows the fish the time to swim over then see the bait and take it.

I also recall from that epsiode that Bill Dance said as Rodman mentioned that is simulated predator chasing prey. In that show, BD said his dad or grand dad added a very light jig to the back of a popper to simulate the chase when the bass did nothing more than track the popper and the addtion of the tiny jig was what eventually triggered the bass to bite. That long armed buzzbait was in essence a crude representation of that jig/popper combination. As Ripley says, Believe it (the theory), or not!

Yeah i found it on the booyah site. I couldnt think of any reason why you would need the arm to be that long.

It works pretty good when the fish are schooling in the late spring and summer. I caught some pretty nice ones this year on a white one.

Some I saw at the new Bass Pro Shop here in Tennessee looked to be over 2 feet in length. Interesting, anyhow....

Years ago in the 1960's we used to place a Doll Fly( which is a hair jig) in front of a Lazy Ike or Hello bender. It was to simulate the predator prey thing plus itn gave the plug alittle added depth. Sometimes the strike would be on the jig instead of the hard bait. Thsi was back in the days before the revolution of the crankbait fromFred on the Big o. Fish2win
