Tie it on the snap attached to the eye of the hook and the blade. Then just chunk and wind-fish it like you would a crankbait or spinnerbait-at least that worked for me.

Reb, as of last night, I didn't get an answer to my question on another forum. How does the Chatterbait's lift compare to a tandem-blade spinnerbait of comparable weight?

Marty-the spinnerbait has a lot more lift. The chatterbait is more along the lines of a regular jig or a trap. Feels like a trap, too, when retrieving it.

okay I tried it last night in the pond behind the house. The package didnt say what size it was but the damn thing casts like a rocket ship. Does anyone have a paticular size they prefer. I like the action but the fish didnt. Then I lost it in a tree. Tree 1 /chatterbait 0 /. but I did catch a 3lb bass on a red shad worm.

I bought a couple yesterday and played with them in the swimming pool last night so I could check the action with different retrieves...though it doesn't have the lift of a spinner bait...you can still burn it across the top of the grass since it runs 6-18 inches below the surface...or it looks like you can also swim it or hop like a regular jig...drug it over the Polaris hose several times without it rolling over and hanging up...you can really feel it when it bumps cover though...I know you guys are thinking the same thing my neighbors think..."Hey...the crazy man is fishing in his pool again" but it really is a pretty good way so determine sink rates and watch the action...hope that helps...bowed up...

I noticed the size was not marked. I got one as part of an aniversery gift. I haven't tried it yet, but I am wonder which size it is. I guess I will way it and see if it matches up with any of the weight choices. By the way, the rest of the aniversery gift: Shimino reel with American Rodsmith worm rod, Gamma 17lb line, Zoom ole monster worms, Zoom trailers (green pumpkin), two spinnerbaits, 3 5/16 jigs and craw trailers, spiro (spelling) frog. I think that I am leave something off, but not sure. Did my wife do good or WHAT!!! |

Welcome to the forum, Austin and q-dot!

q-dot-I see you are also in San Antonio. When I lived in an apartment I'd check lures in the pool. Everybod thought I was nuts except one guy-he was also a bass fisherman and knew exactly what I was doing .

I used the chatterbait last weekend. I caught 8 pickerals and 4 bass. I fished it as a spinnerbai/jig. I let it fall as if a jig would then I fished it as a spinnerbait.

Thanks for the welcome Rebbasser...had read a lot about the Chatter bait and when I played with it...it looked like something that might do well over the grass beds down at Choke...or maybe even bouncing around the stump fields upriver where you might not wanna use a crankbait...we'll see...

I know they work on Choke catfish-my buddy caught one on a Chatterbait on Tuesday. Yesterday we fished Medina, and he said the same thing-it would probably work better ofer the grassbeds at Choke-right before I caught one on it

What's the deal with the catfish chasing crankbaits anyway...I fished a small tourney at Lake Bastrop a coupla weeks ago...using a blue gill colored Big O on one of the points...caught about a 3 lb. catfish...to add insult to injury...as I was unhooking him...the nasty @#&%) crapped all over the front of my boat...just plain disgustin'

I worked choke for the last 2 weekends with a chatter bait and they work real well. The smallest of the bass I caught was a 3 pounder. I found them to work the best on rocky banks and to pull them off points. That's my 2 cents

I've been using the Chatterbait for a few years now. I live in northern Indiana, and for me, the Chatterbait has been a great cold water lure. Especially right after ice out. I'll cast it out and let it sink to the bottom and then begin a slow steady retrieve. As the water warms, I'll pick up the speed a little and impart a bit more action by faising and lowering the rod along with a few short jerks. After the water temp reach 60 or so, the chatterbait bite dies down for me while the spinnerbait takes it's place. I've done fairly well with pitching it around cover. Toss it out and let it sink down into an open pocket in a weedbed, or work a weedline much like you would a jig, with a yo yo pull and drop action. As for size, I like a heavier chatterbait. I just find it easier to use and more versatile. I always use a split tail plastic trailor with it.
