Default One thing about a Chatterbait

The hooks ain't sharp right out of the package. Do yourself a favor and hit it with a hook sharpener before you throw it.

I'm glad I was sitting down when I read that. I'm shocked! A lure that's supplied with a less-than-sharp hook. What's the world coming to? Maybe with a sharp hook they'd be $8 instead of $7.

No biggie to sharpen it but I don't trust ANY bait right out of the package anymore. Guess I'm getting cynical in my old age .

LMAO!!! cynical or sinial I am with jb on this one. NO hook is sharp enough on just about any bait. I replace all mine with gammy's or the VMC cone cuts when using a treble.

So what is your opinion on the NEW WONDERBAIT? Other than poor hooks, what other dislikes and likes did you have from it? Just wondering, I thought you were gonna wait to buy one LOL

Actually I was given a couple. The jury is still out, but it looks promising.

Another problem is it has no weed guard. I doen't come through grass very well. I heard they were coming out with one with a weed guard on it.

Reb, How many times Zooker got to spell it for you to learn it right ? Anit.I have learned so much from you over the years, funny how some of the greatest people on Earth can be so wrong, even if they are right ? I am warming up to the charade thing of the English language. We have the resources & all kinds of knowledgable people right here, that could design the ultimate secret bass weapon ? P N J

Tommy, you know it. If it don't have Rebbasser's seal of approval soon, I am not throwing my money down for one. I think the majority of the stuff is made just to please the bait monkey ? No mo' crap is being hauled to the boat, unless I get a confirmation, saying the bait is good to go. P N J

pnj,
the chatterbait is actually a lure made by the germans in the early 1940's , however never did take off, I heard it chattered to much,
plus in the 50's the Jewish leaders had it taken off the shelves.

In the last couple days a fellow posted on nybass.com that he's broken 3 chatterbaits. He broke two, notified the makers and then broke one of the replacements that they had sent.

how/where is the bait breaking? At the blade? heard of the strike king spinner baits having a problem with blades falling off, and had a KVD spinner have its blade fall off as well. equipment failure is something us bassfishermen have to deal with.

They are now made by Zman, the ones that were breaking are probably not even from the same factory as the new ones.

They have Mustad Needle point hooks, it did seem to have some of the blueing (or whatever they made the dark ones not shine with) over the hook point, but once i fished it a while and caught a couple of fish the hook felt 10 times as sharp as it did out of the package.

The Hank Parker classic spinnerbaits are real bad about breaking too, not just the light *** wire but they use splitrings that are too light and tend to throw a blade from time to time. If you fish them, you just have to deal with the possibility...just like you have to deal will the threat of a hook straightening out or breaking a lip on a crankbait. Fish enough and you'll see everything.

I've used the chatterbait in various ways in various conditions and have had maybe three bites on it, but they felt like short strikes. I've fished mine a total of probably 5 hours in 3 different outings with no results. It seems like a good bait to me, but I think that you have to have the right kinda thing going on before they'll work.

It appears that it's a reaction bait. And if they are hitting on spinnerbaits or crankbaits, they would also probably hit on this bait? I have only heard one or two folks RAVE about it, I believe it to a noisy spinnerbait/buzzbait. I think even if you have a good day with it, you very possibly could have had a great day with some other bait as well. I just don't think it's the new SUPER DUPER bait from everything I've read and seen. Not saying it won't catch fish, but is it gonna catch fish when nothing else will, I doubt it.
